Yesterdays Arrivals! (Kittens)

The misses picked up 2 last week after weeks of looking. No special breed, just cute little kitties!

Do you find Maine Coons molt much? ie: Do you find their fur comes off easily?

Sorry i didn't see this question. No they don't really. The real problem is the amount of twigs and leaves they bring in tangled in t heir fur, i've got most of a tree scattered about my house right now, it really needs hoovering up. And i have to check their stomachs and under their legs daily to check for tangled fur balls, because if you let them develop they can get really bad a end up hurting the cat.

Lovely cats but I can't believe people lock their cat indoors! It is cruel and there is no good reason, if you think there is then you shouldn't have one!

Your simplistic outlook of 'cruel' owners locking up pets for 'no good reason' is over simplified and naive at best and certainly not in line with any of the pedigree breeders or the four CPL/private rescue set up's i've known personally for the last 20 years. None let the cats out over night, none will allow a cat to be re-homed if the owner mentions letting them out over night, non of them will re home a cat that is an outdoor cat to anyone who lives near a main road.

We also have a Mau (Mesmer) and a Bengal (Izzy), both are house cats and wouldn't last a day outside. Izzy is a 2nd generation wild cat with both parents being 1 step removed from wild cat when the breed was created and technically requires a wild animal permit so allowing him to roam free is just never going to happen. Mes can do well over 30mph (record for the breed stands at 36mph!) Combine this lack of fear with the fact they are highly distinctive/have an easy re-sale value and you can see if the cars didn't get him then someone else would.

Perhaps you think it's cruel but I consider people who live in densely populated area's who let cat's out at night to be equally cruel. Cats are territorial, packing a few hundred in a small area (such as a few streets) to fight it out isn't responsible. I've seen enough cat fights or injured/dead cat's in my time to know better but you'd argue this isn't cruel it seems. Even my outdoor cat's were trained to come to call, one was even more obedient than the ex-working collie we had but even they were only out for a few hours at a time and 99% of the time they didn't leave our garden.

life expectancy? i know with dogs pure breeds don't live as long as mongrels etc.

I expect my Egyptian Mau and Bengal to live to about 15-20 years.

Moggies, I believe, live closer to 20 (providing they die by old age and not under a car, etc).

indeed, why pay 100s for a designer cat when there are loads living in a shelter. :(
Just buy a painting or something if you want one to look nice.

Did you read my earlier post ? I've been supporting the CPL and local individuals who take in strays and unwanted animals for the last 20 years.

For the record Izzy lived outside in a cage and had zero human interaction other than food twice a day for the first two and a half years of his life (Before we got him). He had no name only a pedigree. It took 18 months of hard work before he became anything like a domestic pet. Perhaps it would be best if you didn't make blanket judgements about others based on your own limited preconceptions ?

*edit* Actually he did match our cushions at one point and the other half does have a bag that looks 'Bengal' ;)

Have you got any pics of your Egyptian Mau and F2 Bengal?

Yep, including one with all three Bengals we had and the Mau in a giant fur pile, i'll dig them out when I get home.

Fair enough, I appologise, but you also seem to understand that you are in the minority and unlike most other exotic cat owners so you see what I mean.

Moggies or not we would never let our 2 out over night, its to dangerous what with foxes etc etc.
