Yewen looks at: Lian Li S80b

This is not a review, just me posting pictures.

I will be doing the review after about a week, giving me enough time to live with the case and see its ins and outs, if it develops a resonation issue in hot / cold weather and the like.

My main rig is going in it tonight hopefully, I will then go about posting up some pictures of everything, but may wait for the review to avoiding confusion.

On a note, this case is cooling my Athlon XP 2400+ and Geforce 4 ti4800 rig 2 deg cooler than a v1000+ would now, using the top 80mm fan (don't think its 92, ill check!) as an intake, and the rest as normal.

So many possibilities for cooling in this case, using the stock fans I have managed to drop 4deg of the temps of everything, and thats with the same room temperature aswell. :)

Moreso than a v1000+ I think this case will be depending on your rig to what fan configuration you have.

I will clear up the filter situation in a bit.

The front is deffinately not plastic, but brushed aluminium, some foam, then another sheet of aluminium screwed on the back. :D

Cracking built case though, its ok to build in, a little worse than the v1000+ as you have less room to position the motherboard.

Everyone may also like to know it looks like Lian Li have a S80 without door in the works, the instruction sheet shows one. ;)

The bit that sticks out the back - whats that all about? for a rad i presume?

Nah its venting to direct the air away from the side intakes, and stop the one exahust interfering with the PSU temperatures. (I think at this moment in time.

It is removeable, but its brushed aluminium and looks really good, you cant see it looking straight on unless your right up close, or from the side.

would mounting a rad inside it be possible (the duct vent thingy that is?)

if I could make a kind request - could you post a photo of the inside from side on, and, in your opinion mark on where rad mounting possibilities are? :)

oh and also is that strange flap thing that goes over the CPU HSF removable? because in a water setup it wouldnt be required...

I know I know, its a case designed for maximizing air cooling potential, but I quite like the look of it, and if its possible for an all-internal WC setup I might be very interested :)

Its got compartments in it, I will take a photo later on. :)

Sure, I will post up possible places for rad's and the dimensions of the spaces if you like. :)

Just a small thing here, you could mount a Rad on one of the removeable internal panels, and just have the ouside of the case looking normal.

So many possibilities, especially if your willing to make your own bits.

aye but if you mount the rad on the innner skin of the side panel you still ideally want air to the rad...or is there airflow inbetween the exterior and second panels?

the workmanship on this case is very nice, it reminds me of my alltime favorite CM111.

The back sticky out bit looks a bit naff though, but i can see how it effects cooling.

Just need a computer to put inside it now

The gap between the side panel is part of the intake, and does have a fair bit of airflow in it, especially if you used the rad as a intake into the case. :)

Think im going to put the main rig in it in the next hour or so. :)

can you see the effect of removing the back funnel on the temps?

Have not tried it to be honest. Will do eventually but taking temperatures is a bit hit and miss as my room is 30 at the moment. :p

Its not a case i'd buy myself due to the door, but Ive got to say i do like the look of it.

Hey Yewen i thought you were a silver man ;) , nice to see you've switched to the dark side.

It looks gorgeous but I have found niggles with it that have made me have to stop for the night.

So far, the build has taken 2.5 hours, and im half done ish!

v1000+ I could build up proper cable tidied in around 2 hours, this looks like 5 so far!

Its my second build in it, and I am going slowly to prevent scratches. Ace case for cable tiding so far but just so insanely complicated due to holes everywhere for just ONE cable to go through and only one, and they need to be in the right order.

Not a case for the first time builder if you want a tidy PC, but oh my is it a dream to build in, everything I want in a case.

The trouble is, everything I want in a case means I am left scratching my head a lot on the best way to tidy this and that up, and I have a fair, be honest, amount of experience in building up in cases.

Its not an issue as such, but I was not expecting the build to take this long.

The fans are Lian Li L121's if anyone is interested.

Lovely case, but oh my does it take some time!

Oh and if you don't like a door expect a version without one to be released soon!

And you called me a noob when it took me a while to complete the transfer from the chieftec to my Lian Li ;)

Pot kettle and black :p

Nah seriously I know what it's like when you've got a nice new case, your really worried that it's going to get scratched, I was like that when I first got my Global Win 802, was my first real decentg case and it cost me quite a lot of money too at the time.

just waiting on my new modular Enermax PSU to arrive and then will bung my components in one.

Had the case fully out of the box and its so good to have a hally case again after a year of a P180.

Before you build if it comes tommorrow drop me an email.

Some slight things you need to know before building, just incase I did not get chance to get the pictures and opinions of the builds up. :)
