Fwiw....Yep, you and @GregI were right, after pushing them today for more information on the roll out it's been clarified as "No progression until re-plan" and when chasing on my street being included their response was pretty much as you put that they use PIA and would need to conduct assessments to see if the cost/benefit was there to roll out to our street.
Well, guess there was no harm in trying but looks like I am back to being at the mercy of Openreach if/when they decide to include the several streets in our local area which haven't been included because they aren't easy wins.
Not a bad idea, I've had a quick whip around the neighbors to get their thoughts on getting better broadband and at the moment the general concencus is nobody is massively bothered but they also aren't bothered if the roads get dug up either.Fwiw....
I signed up a fair chunk of my neighbours to the "notify me when in my area" thing on the website.
Modern problems require modern solutions.
Have you registered interest on Openreach's website as well? Not a bad idea, I've had a quick whip around the neighbors to get their thoughts on getting better broadband and at the moment the general concencus is nobody is massively bothered but they also aren't bothered if the roads get dug up either.
Having a walk around the area I can see Netomnia are slinging fibre kit on telephone poles and they are laying fibre into the installed ducts in the town over from us so it looks like they have left our area until OR do the main legwork so it looks like my wait will continue for now
Absolutely, I've got a case open with them as well to check on what happened to the planned roll out of our area to try and hedge our bets.Have you registered interest on Openreach's website as well?
I’m wracking my brains thinking of other carriers for you. BRSK? CityFibre?Absolutely, I've got a case open with them as well to check on what happened to the planned roll out of our area to try and hedge our bets.
Also had a call with SpringFibre who have been rolling out in our area and seem to use a mixture of their own ducts and PIA to get to peoples houses. At this point I'm throwing stuff at the wall in the hope that something will stick
I think at the moment thats the lot as CityFibre don't look to be rolling out near us, same for BRSK however I have registered interest with K-Com as they are rolling out in one of the nearby villages but I think we are quite a while away from them getting to our neck of the woodsI’m wracking my brains thinking of other carriers for you. BRSK? CityFibre?
Couldn't have said it better myself.Honestly, my advice is spend 50% less and still have a two gigabit symmetric internet connection. You're going to be £100 a month down and run some speedtests after paying hundreds out to upgrade your LAN and go "heh that was cool" before having zero use for it with 23 months left on the contract.
This felt like a personal attack haha..as that's what would most likely happen..but think of the speed test satisfaction!Honestly, my advice is spend 50% less and still have a two gigabit symmetric internet connection. ISP's hate this one simple trick!Couldn't have said it better myself.
Here's the dopamine hit of said speedtest so you can skip that part entirely:
Now stick to the 2 Gig.
Get the 1Gb (for a very decent price) - When you find yourself maxxing it out upgrade to the 2Gb. I am fairly sure you will struggle to max the 1Gb line out for more than 10 mins at a time.ISP's hate this one simple trick!
I know I know, 8GB is massively overkill. Most things won't even utilise that much speed. Most devices have 1GB ports. Only device in the house that would use it would be my PC and even then I don't think I could max out that line even if I wanted!
It's just the temptation..must resist!!
I've been on a 900mb package for 1.5 years with Zen now (for £55 per month). It's great, I can't complain. I do download a fair amount of stuff so I do max out the 900mb line.Get the 1Gb (for a very decent price) - When you find yourself maxxing it out upgrade to the 2Gb. You need to get ping values from people that are around your area, physics and all that. Earlier in this thread I asked someone near my area who had YouFibre and on average pings were within margin of error compared to Openreach (2ms or so), time of day etc also matters. It's definitely not something to worry about. The only concern I have is that I get 5ms ping right now and I think YouFibre average 15-20ms? Can anyone confirm please

Your pings should be inline with your geographic location. Here in Yorkshire I ping around 10/11ms to London (via Manchester as far as I can tell). On Cityfibre it was 7/8ms as seemed to be straight to London so not much of a difference.I've been on a 900mb package for 1.5 years with Zen now (for £55 per month). It's great, I can't complain. YouFibre do a 1.8Gb package for £50 per month. So for £5 cheaper than what I'm paying now I can double my download and 18x my upload. I think that's the best option.
It's being installed on the 20th June so I will test it out for a month. The only concern I have is that I get 5ms ping right now and I think YouFibre average 15-20ms? Can anyone confirm please
The no contract 1Gbps package is £40 so still pretty good value. That matches Vodafone's Openreach 1Gbps in contract price but then it means you have Vodafone so... lol. Plus it's still 800Mbps down on the upload compared to YouFibre.I do wonder about their pricing structure. What it would be like after the 2 year contract is up. To stay competitive they'd have to at least be on par with the majority of providers. I did like the fact that Zen never raise their prices. It would be great if YouFibre do something like this.
