Your bad driving encounters

At work I'm guilty of this one but I have reason.

Our work vehicles are actively speed monitored and even a deviation of 2mph over the limit for more than 6 secs gets flagged. Because they're multi-ton vehicles they don't slow quickly by themselves.
That makes sense, it's cars I'm specifically talking about.

Think I freaked someone out a little today, though mostly an overreaction on their part IMO, I was closing a little hot on a tailback of traffic when some kind of drama went on near the start of the queue causing people to slow randomly - which I think the car in front of me didn't think I could see and started snaking while randomly putting their indicators on right and left to get my attention. Maybe a touch inconsiderate on my part, though I think mostly overreaction on their part, but I was perfectly aware of what was going on and how much room I had to work with and matched speed with the traffic with loads of space to spare.

Interestingly just reviewing the dashcam it wasn't what I thought at all - they started to drift out of their lane towards oncoming traffic, I assume not paying attention at all, and I'm guessing at that point the car safety systems kicked in (new Mercedes AMG) which because of that they became aware late that the traffic ahead was slowing to a stop and panic reacted despite having space ahead of them to stop in.

As my attention at the initial point was on what was going on ahead of them I missed some of the details.

Seen three separate drivers in today's rush hour, brazenly using their mobile phones without even trying to hide it. One guy was in the slow moving traffic on the approach to the Dartford crossing. Four lanes of slow moving traffic with people often stopping, swapping lanes etc, basically where you really need to concentrate. But he was almost constantly looking down at the phone in his right hand, scrolling away, glancing up and jerking forward when he realised he was getting left behind, then braking hard, going back to his phone, looking up again and surging forward, rinse and repeat.

Boils my ****.

Yeah seems to be ever increasing the last couple of years - doesn't take two braincells to realise it is a bad idea.

A variant of it I'm seeing quite a bit is someone driving over the speed limit (or wanting to) while merrily paying attention to their phone and an unsecured dog (or dogs) bouncing about in the car... and everyone else's fault when they nearly have an incident.

It's just a shame you can't get out of the car when the traffic stops open their door and hoof their phone into the yonder.

I think for a lot of people (my wife included but thankfully not while driving) it's become a reflex just to pick it their phone regardless of where they are or what they're doing.

Worries me a bit I might do it at some point i.e. when stopped in traffic without thinking as in certain situations it is reflex to check my phone, fortunately not done it so far.

It's why I leave mine in my pocket, no way I'm going to accidently fish it out of there on reflex :o

I was in the lane alongside him and I came very close to winding down my window, getting his attention and telling him to get off his ****ing phone, it annoyed me that much. But I realised it wouldn't do any good, and given that we were in traffic, he might be just as likely to get out and batter me. I just left it, and made sure to put a few cars between us so I wouldn't be involved if he did run into someone.
