Your bad driving encounters

Have encountered some e-bikers recently who decide to do 20+ mph on pavements and not slow to down to cross roads. Guessing they'll be knocked off one day as a fair few drivers don't seem to slow down for junctions these days either. Everyone is so impatient.

e-biker knocked off and seriously injured just around the corner from my video above the next evening:

I'm a little leery of speculation but comments on Facebook from people who apparently saw the rider and car thought to be involved before the incident don't paint either road user in a good light (also speculation the car was one stolen nearby around that time).

I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often.

Guarantee about 50% of comments are aimed at the cyclist 'but they dont pay road tax'

Hint, it makes no difference.
Back to my original post that sparked the conversation, it makes an absolute world of difference to drivers compared to the morons with no lights and dressed in black - you stand at least half a chance of seeing them as they fly out of side road without hesitation into flowing traffic.

I do agreed engineered solutions would be better though, that prevent them blindly joining traffic in the first place, then they can make themselves as invisible as they want.

Having read again I think the poster is being sarcastic.

Really just wanting to point out the huge anti cyclist mentality when it is a great away to do short trips and leave roads for trips that actually need a car, which we will all benefit from. It really shows in this thread about bad driving that you all can't get away from 'what about cyclists'. I don't think this thread has seen so many posts in such a short amount of time.

I see a guy on an E-scooter every day, morning and evening with a rucksack, presuambly commuting to work and back. He rides it on the road like a car, does roundabouts and everything. Hes got a high vis on and a cycle helmet with a gopro nailed to the top of it. Is this legal??? needless to say no numberplates or anything.

Much like drivers though, for every good one there are 1000 bad ones. Except you notice cyclists more and also I think cyclists/e-bikers/scooters should do their best to stay safe as they're the ones that are going to come off worse when an idiot in a vehicle hits them.

Makes no difference to the idiot drivers, for the rest of us it helps massively.

Not unless you're in an area where there is a company running a trial with them like the Voi scooters and that's what is being ridden, privately owned ones are illegal on public land.

Although nobody seems to give a crap, they're everywhere!

... you don't need to slow at junctions if there is nobody there ....
but, if you ride a bike, especially on damp roads it is the mediocre stopping power at higher speeds that's the problem where an e-bike rider may come unstuck,
regular experienced ICE cyclists have developed some skill, but laws of physics still apply.

How do you have time to check if anyone's there unless you slow down to check?

This isn't driving on a road this is an e-biker on a pavement, so they're going across the road that's joining as opposed to being on the main road. The same logic as checking traffic before walking and crossing a road. When you cross a road you don't just carry on walking at 20-30 mph without checking for hazards, surely?

The usual moan from me. It's been gloomy and foggy for a while, not dense enough to warrant fog lights, but still dim enough that lights on is just sensible even in the day. Yet I've lost count of the amount of cars (and a couple of cyclists) I've seen looming out of the mist with no lights whatsoever. I'm guessing these are the "It's light enough for me to see, so why would I need lights on?" brigade.

DRLs becoming ubiquitous has improved things somewhat, but I wish they would universally illuminate the rears as well.

It's becoming very common for me to watch someone walking up to a junction staring at their phone not even look up and just wander into the road. Luckily so far I've always spotted them so stop in plenty of time but then lean on the horn anyway in the hope that the shock will remind them to look next time because there's plenty of drivers around here that would just plough on regardless.

"give way to pedestrians crossing or waiting to cross a road into which or from which you are turning. If they have started to cross they have priority, so give way (see Rule H2)"

I frequently cross junctions that drivers are wanting to turn into or out of. It often gets me a beep of the horn as well, but I'm sick of the entitled ***** thinking I should defer to them. Well done for calling yourself out.

Cool you'll notice I have no problem letting them cross, but to not even look up from your phone is moronic in the highest degree and will end badly when they come across the drivers who speed around my local area with zero ****s given.

Also don't call me a ****, you've not even bought me dinner.
