Your bad driving encounters

Lol, got an email back from the licencing body already:

"I have spoken to the driver concerned. He said it was a genuine mistake as he didn’t see your vehicle coming round the bend until he had already pulled out. I have spoken to him about his driving and informed him that the complaint will be recorded against his file. I intend to take no further action on this occasion."

Specsavers.jpg

The video clearly shows I was already half way on the other side of the road and you can hear me start to accelerate past him before he starts moving...

Doesn't surprise me unfortunately, some of the stories I've seen of some taxi drivers that Glasgow City Council allow to get or retain their licence are baffling. Often even the police will appeal to them not to grant a licence but GCC do it anyway.

Went on a little ride in the evening today to keep the battery going on the Bike. Stopped at the fuel station on the way back and was waiting to merge in (turn left) to get out of the Petrol pump. It was past 5 PM and understandably busy. Traffic stops, there's a car in front of me so I was expecting the car to my right to be considerate.

Like I have been taught I make eye contact but the lady just ignores and drives past. Felt like the usual motorcycle hater. Anyway, the car behind her thankfully allows me to merge. I say Thank you with my hand raised and proceed to filter and get past the non considerate lady. However, as luck may have it, my bike may have gone in false neutral precisely near the driver side window and throttle slightly open. ;)

To be fair it can get silly in busy traffic - sometimes on my way to work I've left spaced for and/or stopped for, etc. so many times to let people out, often because other people aren't bothering, I just want to get moving for a bit and someone else have a turn.

Speaking of the 1 series, I saw one with their rear fog lights ON in light/medium rain.

Yesterday on M6 South, had a Qashqai driver hogging the third lane all the way. They even sped up when I was overtaking. On the way back I moved from lane 2 to 3 in anticipation that a car closely following a lorry may move out. Audi A4 guy long behind flashes lights straightaway. Audi drivers are indeed a very self entitled breed, most of them anyway.

People still determined to try to drive into the back of my car despite heavy traffic, must only be looking at my car and nothing happening anywhere else around us.

I had one of those ones that just confuses those of us more logical human beings tonight. NSL 60 drops to a 30 for a bit so I eased off and then started braking coming up to the 30 car that's been well behind me in the 60 either doesn't notice the change in speed or is getting into my boot to make a point.

They then realise I am going to do 30 so hang back, coming to the end of the 30 couple of hundred meters before the change back to NSL they're back up my arse obviously trying to make me speed up. We hit the NSL and I get back up to speed and they're no where to be seen again.

Just leaves me scratching my head.

Had one of those last night - riding my arse through town, left way behind on the NSL, could see them catching me up through the next village but didn't quite catch me before the next bit of NSL and they never caught me up again.

My car is flaming awful for clearing ice / condensation. The engine doesn't really heat up until you start moving so the blowers aren't very effective.

Big engine diesels can be bad for it if they don't have a secondary (PTC) heater.

Thankfully in mine I have front windscreen defrost, same as rears. It is very helpful in the Mondeo. But being a diesel the heaters take a while to warm up the car inside.

It was funny to see once someone not clearing the snow on their car roof. They braked on a Give way and the whole thing slid on the front windscreen. Then got out to clear it. I am sure they must have tried using the wiper but the slab was too thick even for the wipers to work.

I have Mondeo 2.2 TDCi and my heaters are warm in under 5mins.

You might need to change your oil cooler thermostat as they commonly fail and stick open, overcooling the engine.

Mine is a 2.0. Yes they do warm up under 5 mins mate. For me that somehow feels like ages. :)
Missus having a Petrol Mazda 3 does not help the cause either. That thing heats up fast. But that's Petrol so I know.

Our two EVs are great at clearing ice and snow. Turn on precondition for 20 minutes and go out to a nice warm car with the snow mostly melted off.

Even with “only” 200 winter miles I would never go back to an ice cold ICE for those cold winter mornings.

I find it mad how many road users there are out there who happily drive around with either an extremely dim or completely broken front or/and read lights. Can they not tell the road ahead of them isn't illuminated evenly?

It's not even a hard job to change them. My fiancé's Sportage gave an error message about one of the front lights, popped into Halfords to buy the bulb after entering her reg into their website to confirm the right bulb and it was easy to switch yourself.

I know this isn't specifically 'driving' related but it involves cars so I thought I'd post it here:

I own a few houses and I like to move around between them, at the weekends (mostly Sundays) I like to leave my car in my gaff near London and then commute to my voluntary role as Soup Master in the local church. My problem is there is a numpty in a micra that parks for days on end to the right of my car, I would say dangerously close and sometimes prevents me from being able to open my car door! I've checked the deeds to the property and my car is shown as being in a legitimate bay, the problem is that car can be there for days at a time and I've yet to meet or see the owner to talk to.

I'm presuming he thinks he's parked legitimately as he/doctor (I presume he due to the awful handwriting) left me a note, but it was illegible, so try though I might I couldn't read it. I do like to keep an eye on most things outside my house so often find myself twitching through the curtains, I've also certainly reprimanded quite a few berks over the years but just can't seem to catch this guy to explain the situation! I guess I should just be a bit more patient, sadly the soup kitchen is run during very weird times so I try to sleep and/or curtain twitch during the days....

What's even weirder, is I drove back to one of my other houses in Essex to find my other car (an Audi) had unwittingly formed part of a roadblock into my cul-de-sac! I wanted to notify the authorities but decided against it as I partake in rather large scale hydroponics, whilst not illegal they probably wouldn't understand why I cultivate thousands of male cannabis plants for my tomato plants (they love the terpenes). And I expect the boys in blue wouldn't immediately recognise the difference and bang me up for PWITS - it's happened before hence knowing the lingo!

I don't expect any help, just venting really.....

My car came with an aftermarket remote start kit fitted.

Beginning to regret removing it as my car, when started in this cold weather, will auto engage the heated front/rear screens, heated mirrors & heated washer jets as well as put the climate control on max defrost.

Mine's the ST-TDCi model with some 'minor' alterations....

Due to the inclusion of a PTC heater, which is also fitted to some ICE cars.
