Your bad driving encounters

ive not watched the video but on the pic above, i thought you are not allowed to over take on a solid white line?
its a dotted line with a solid line. Means yu are allowed to overtake if safe to do so. Clearly with oncoming traffic in that lane, it was not.

You can use the middle lane there to overtake in both directions, you can't use the downhill side of the road to overtake someone in the middle lane going up. I'm surprised it is still marked like that though - so many people off the end of the dual-carriageway there chance it to get past lorries which are already onto the single lane and been a fair few nasty accidents there over the years.

Not to the same extreme but had someone do similar on me today on a normal main road - overtake as I was coming the other way forcing me to slowdown as a precaution.

there ? road markings don't indicate that

I thought there were uk undulating roads where the middle lane is alternately allocated to both forward/oncoming traffic streams - each peak it swaps over;
and in France I've been on roads where middle lane is genuinely open to either side - just discipline required.

Do none of you know the road rules. That was a perfectly legal over take regarding lane lines.
Double white lines where the line nearer to you is broken. This means you may cross the lines to overtake if it is safe, provided you can complete the manoeuvre before reaching a solid white line on your side.

No it wasn't because it wasn't safe to do so.
They also crossed back after the lines had become double solid again.

I'm confused as to how many are confused by the markings :o but as tom said it should only be used in that direction when safe to do so - nominally in a situation like that when the other side is unpopulated in both lanes.

Only issue is there is a biker incoming in the same lane.

You can overtake there but it wasn't safe.

I'd never do it with traffic that heavy even if the biker wasn't already occupying the lane - there was a cluster of cars coming up to the start of the middle lane opening the other way with one (the white car) already positioning to use it - far too high a risk of someone moving into it either at the same time, not realising the other way could use it as there are double-whites further down or not properly looking resulting in a head on situation.

At most if there was say 2-3 well spaced cars coming the other way I might - though always the risk of someone who is taking a right at the lights at the top of the hill moving over prematurely.

Yea I'm not disputing the safety aspect, only the road rules regarding lines. Its rather embarrassing to hear a few didn't seem to know what the lines meant.

It's a crawler lane anyway, I always thought they were mainly for getting past wagons and the like (or Sunday drivers :D ). I'm not saying they were in the wrong using that lane as its there to be used, I just meant in general. The guy was very inpatient though.

Yesterday, I saw a lady attempting to drive up a one way road. I actually felt sorry for her as mayhem followed when the correct direction had the green light to drive up the road but couldn't get very far. She looked mortified and hopefully learnt her lesson from it already.

The driver of a Beetle seemed a lot more interesting in texting then the green lights (plural) she had. I don't think this one will learn their lesson without some police intervention.

A couple of inappropriate close passes when cycling that got them to the next red light a few seconds earlier. I don't think these people will learn how pointless it is very easily.

Had an interesting experience yesterday, went for a hike in Shropshire hills AONB - for anyone not aware, it's a very hilly area of moorland with lots of wild ponies and sheep, and it's currently lambing season.

Driving to where we were planning to park and coming across animals in the middle of the road, the guy behind me is beeping, shouting out of this window, and gesticulating at me to drive on - not sure what exactly he was expecting me to do, drive into a horse?

Some people just need to be put down for the sake of the rest of us...

One I'm seeing an increase in lately is people towing horseboxes with someone driving behind them purposefully managing the traffic behind them, while I can kind of understand it to an extent i.e. due to people stupidly tailgating but they are also deliberately frustrating other drivers from overtaking and that is highly dangerous as well as generally inconsiderate - saw one yesterday that nearly ended up with a head on collision because of it - these people seriously need to pull their heads out their rears.

Watched my wife nearly plow head on into a group of bikers yesterday.
Car in front had been dawdling down a clear nsl road at 40ish for a while, we got a to a bit where the double solid lines disappeared and off she went. She hadn't taken into account the car speeding up slightly meaning she was hurtling dangerously close to a blind bend. :o

One of the bikers in the group was a marked police bike and I can't believe they didn't spin around and pull her because the guy at the front of the group definitely needed to hose out his leathers.

Another one annoying me a lot recently how many people dawdle along until someone is overtaking/passing them at which point they speed up a bit putting someone in a bad position, generally not intentionally to frustrate just because they are inconsiderate/clueless muppets.

EDIT: On the topic of bikers saw a strung out group of motocross style bikers going down the middle of the road, then cutting across people to take a left turning - the first few were OK but all the rest just followed on the last few forcing someone to have to come to a stop.

Didn't see it happen but some **** drove into my parked car last night. Obviously didn't leave a note, gonna canvas neighbours for camera footage. Why is it so hard to drive down a striaght road at 20mph without hitting anything?:confused:
