Your bad driving encounters

Well clearly there was a harm in doing so, as evidenced by the fact another vehicle appeared and was forced to reverse while you were causing an obstruction (another vehicle being on the road is something that you should really be able to anticipate whilst driving).

And you had plenty of time and opportunity to use one of the parking spaces, but didn't, just blocked the road regardless.

Both as bad as each other in this case (in my opinion ofc)
I was the one who reversed not the other driver, they continued down the road even though the road was not negotiable. The parking spaces were further up the road where this driver had to pass. I recon that he would have continued down even if I was travelling slowly up the road.

My bad, although you still caused the obstruction even though there were available parking spaces.

The parking spaces were a lot further up the road and not visible from where I stopped. The other driver passed them to come down to me, I was parked less than a minute which was the same time as it would have taken me to get to a clear parking space. So I would still have blocked the road

Well that's ok then, just stop wherever you want with no consideration for other drivers, are you sure you weren't in a Prius with an Uber sticker on the side?

Except the other car wasn't there at that point... and how was the other driver supposed to know you were only going to block the road for a minute?

How I stopped was how most drivers would do in that situation. The other car would have had to wait for me to clear all the parked cars on both sides of the street in any case, aren't you supposed to give way to oncoming traffic that has no gap to go into, if you have a space?

So the other car was visible when you decided to block the road? Otherwise how would they have known they needed to give way to you? (PS. if you're parked, you aren't "oncoming" ;))

Clearly you're unwilling to accept that your driving contributed to the situation in any way, so I'll leave you to it and look forward to seeing more of you featuring in the thread

The other car was way off when I stopped and the wife was out of the car for less than a minute in this time the car just carried on down even though the road would have been blocked by me going up the road, they had an opportunity to pull in and wait or even take a different road which they didn't. Yes I stopped but I have also been in that situation and I have driven to a parking space and waited for the vehicle to clear me

You have admitted you KNEW another car was coming the other way, regardless of distance, you were close enough to observe it, by your own admission it was 'less than a minute' away. You then proceed to block the only available lane due to laziness & entitlement, in which time the other vehicle had closed the gap. You caused the situation by blocking the road, There's even a specific offence for it, Sec 137 Highways Act 1980.

I would have blocked the road in any case as there is only room for one vehicle to travel and I was on that section of road first with nowhere to pull-in immediately so that's why I stopped, the other car had more opportunities to pull-in but didn't and continued down blocking my exit from the road even though they had time to observe that the road wasn't clear and to pull over to wait

So you should have continued until you weren't causing an obstruction.

Listen, if I pay for and send you a stamped & addressed envelope, will you post your licence back to Kelloggs and take proper lessons for a real one?

Blocking the road so your wife can deliver a Christmas card is just a poor decision by you.

I would have carried on and turned around until I found somewhere safe to pull in, even if she was only going to be a minute.

He probably thought you'd seen him and recognised the lack of space for passing and chosen to stop at a gap you could pass each other, only to reach you and find out that you'd actually just stopped blocking the road for your own convenience and there was nowhere for either of you to go.

I'm a considerate driver, it was just this driver who made it a whole lot worse. I could have been driving slow like I said and they would have continued down. If they had waited I would have been out of their way with no trouble but they insisted on coming down which then blocked me from going, so who was inconsiderate then? The road is narrow allowing only one vehicle to go at a time, as there were cars parked on both sides of the street a the point I had stopped and there were no other vehicles on that part of the road. Further up was a right-hand turn they could have used( which wouldn't have inconvenienced them much or several parking spaces where they could have gone into to allow me upbut they didn't.

Oh, you missed the part where they are psychic and knew to wait for a stopped car to resume it's journey earlier.

TBH I think it boils down to "I stopped somewhere I knew no one could pass".

I know I'm a bit uptight but I don't stop or park in a way that will stop other people using the road/pavement.

If we're going down the "they should have given way" discussion then the only right of way advice in the highway code is purely advisory.

This on the other hand is not.
Rule 242
You MUST NOT leave your vehicle or trailer in a dangerous position or where it causes any unnecessary obstruction of the road.

So out of the two of you only one was breaking an actual must not rule.

Although like I said earlier it basically sounds like neither of you were making anyone's life easier.
