We've all got them, we all notice other people’s and we're often embarrassed by them. All of us have stupid quirks and traits that to others might seem absolutely bonkers but to yourself are the rules by which you live your life. So what are your stupid little quirks?

Here are a few of mine to get you started:

• I normally go up stairs in double-steps, so that I miss out every other step and get to the top faster. But I get really annoyed if I have to end up taking a half-step at the end. So much so that I know which sets of steps I have to take a half-step at the bottom so it ends on a full double-step.

• I cannot stand chewing gum. Even the words make me want to gag - the noises people make when they chew it, the motion of their jaws, the foul sticky mess that it leaves on the pavements... I HATE IT. I even hate the word 'chew'. HATEHATEHATEHATEHATE. Also, I seem to have developed an irrational hatred for mint.

• When in church, or some other solemn occasion, I have to resist the urge to stand up and shout the rudest combination of words imaginable.

• I compulsively lock the screen of my computer, even if I'm going to stay in the same room. I think it's a leftover from my time at HP where you had to lock your screen to prevent company secrets from leaking out of the screen or something.

Actually, that lot makes me sound like a freak. I'm not that bonkers, honest! What makes you special?

Never admitted this before. :o

I mess with numbers in my head. I used to do a paper round (9 years ago now) and if you took me to a certain spot even now on my paper round and pointed out a pavement I'd be able to tell you how many paving slabs make up that bit of pavement.

I count stairs as I go up them (I know how many stairs there are in my workplace - a tower block no less - I also know how many stairs there are in almost every house I've been in since being very little). Generically you'll find 13 stairs. Some weird houses have 14 or even 15.

When I get a number in my head I do a weird thing with it. I add to and subtract from the numbers until I whittle it down to 1 but the numbrs aren't allowed to go in single increments. Say I had 7 in my head, you take the 7 themselves, divvy it all up so you have 7 seperate entities, you then count all the spaces (whether you use the ones either side of the ends or not is up to you) so you either get 13 or 15. We'll take 15. You then ad 1 and 5 together and you get 6. Do the same for 6 as you did for 7 but don't count the ends so you get 11 in the same way as we got 15 before. You then get 2 after adding 1 and 1 together.

From there you go to 5 (the space in between the single increments and either side) then to 9 (without using the end spaces) then to 19 (with using the end spaces) then you add 1 and 0 to get 1 and you're done.

My god I'm a freak.

Do the words obsessive compulsive disorder, turrets syndrome and general freakiness mean anything to you people? :p

Me? I hate unnecessary work and unnecessary noise. Why must the boiler make noises at night? JUST TO WAKE ME UP?>?>?:????

The way checkout operators, or general supermarket people throw coca cola around. Do they not realise how flat they make the coca cola from doing that!!!!! It gets me so so so frustrated with them.

I do the lock computer thing quite a lot too, due to the fact my partners brother is not a person to trust!

I babble occasionally (more so when nervous) but when I do it is completely incomprehensible. Its just a bundle of halfwords and noise. I then usually take about 3 attempts to get it write.
I think I may have self-inflicted turrets, When I am in a relaxed atmosphere (or I at least feel relaxed) I swear like a trooper. **** this **** that **** him etc.
I have become quite sexist. I don't think women are in any way inferior to men. Infact quite the opposite I have adopted the attitude of; "If I can do it so can you". I have also come to the belief (and so far I think it is justified) that teenage girls are infact insane. Not only that but I am close to proving that women are more mature than men is an out and out lie. Above all that I also think they are evil.

I have a compulsive Computer game playing disorder. I cant handle not playing a game in 24 hours.

I cant sit still for long. When I am at work I tend to get up and walk about every 35 - 40 min. However if you put me infront of a game then I will be still for hours.

I am always tired during the day but come about 10pm - midnight I am wide awake

finally, we have an admission by the great man himself ;)

as for me, I hate stepping on lines on the pavement (the intersection between tiles). sounds really childish, but i still walk such that my feet hit the middle of the tile. makes me look like a right plonker at times :D

Aha, I'm not the only one!! I don't do it all the time, but sometimes I can't help it!

mustn't break mothers back

my most annoying habit is when im thinking I stare very slightly down..

this has the effect of making women think im a complete perv if we're having a conversation that requires thought (Im looking through them to be honest) and its something I really need to learn not to do !

also I sit and twich my leg if im a bit hyper, this really annoys my wife :D (whichever leg is free btw, although its usually my right one)

I've got a fair few too many to list, but here are some :D

The thought of biting Metal spoons makes my teeth go funny

When i think of Salt and Vinger, i get tingle in my throat.

I'm so absent minded, I spent 20 minutes look for house keys yesterday. So i decided to give up and have a cup of tea, opened the fridge and there they were ?!?

I check things i know i've switched off 2 or 3 times.

I dont like people seeing my computer screen, I also HATE sitting in a exsposed area ( not that im doing anything dodgy, i think it come from working with nosey co-workers )

I'm aways early for appointments, even if it means me waiting around for ages.

me too in some respects.

In my secondary school we had a severely feminist teacher, who would tell the class how men were all stupid, weak and basically we wouldn’t achieve anything in life etc. and how different history would have been if women ran the show because all the evils of the world were down to us.

worst bit is, if a male teacher had done the opposite he'd have been removed from teaching within a week, this woman had at least 5 years more teaching after I left before she finally got up the duff and became a full time mother (to a young boy, poor little sod)

Really makes it hard for me to accept anything against male gender in the papers and on TV now (90% of advertising) one day I’ll find her in her retirement home and kneecap her :D

I often have to stop myself from doing totally stupid and random things when everything is quiet and calm. I lost control last night while at my PC and picked up a toy light saber (which my mother bought my newphew for christmas) and chased the dog around my house while repeatadly pressing the button on it that made some random "ZZZzzZz" noises.

I CANNOT sleep unless I am facing a wall. If im in a bed that is in the middle of a room where I cant turn on my side and face a wall I will find it hard, if not impossible to get to sleep. I dunno why, maybe I fell out of bed a lot when I was a kid.

I do the same, but I dont get mad if I have to do a half step at the top, most of the time I do a double step anyway (without looking where I am). Makes me look like im jumping when I get up the stairs.

I personally HATE it when people say things like that!

Shaking up a fizzy drink does NOT make it flat. Even less so when it is sealed.

If you think it does then you oviously have no idea of the hell that bottle has been to in the factory and on the way to the store your buying it from. You think anyone listens to the "handle with care" lables? HA!

*gingerly walks backwards, looking genuinly worried*

Er, right, put down the keyboard, and no one will get hurt :D:D

I think I am normal, though I always lock my PC's when no tin the same room as them. I also slurp tea.

aye, i have this as well, albeit not in such an extreme form. Sleeping up against a wall makes me feel safe for some strange reason, and if there is no wall, i can fall asleep but i dont feel as "safe."

heh.....i know some of these...:)

i hate having my back to people, at work, eating out etc, i like to sit in the corner

when i clean my ears, i start to cough very hard, and get this really funny fealing in my throat.

i can go 20 hours without a cigerette if i know i can't have one, give me the cahnce though and i will happily have 5/6 in a row.

i count stairs...:) Gillys right, most houses have 13, mines has 16...

i change nursury ryhmes to make them stupid. my sister in law invited us round for dinner, and put some smelly cheese (papsomehting). i spent the next 3 hours calling her stinky cheese....and singing songs like, jack and jill went up the hill, jac ran back down when jill opened her mouth because she had been eating stinky cheese... :o

or
humpty dumpty sat on the wall,
humpty dumpty had a great fall,
all the kings horse and all the kings men,
got out a frying pan and madea stinky cheese omlette the !"£"$%$!!

I guessed this, but I don't see it :p so it doesn't bother me as much.

And it does make it flat :p, well in my experience. Maybe its a psycological thing?

You sound like me - get out me head!

I got another one as well: I rehearse conversations I anticipate having with people in my head, so that when they come about I know exactly what to say.

OK, here's one of mine...

  • I count the number of letters in a word. But I only do it for big words, and then I pair the letters up and keep repeating them in my head. I get very annoyed if a word has an odd number of letters (doesn't everyone!?! :))
