your commute

A few weeks ago I started timing my commute.

After two weeks I was able to work out the my average commute to work lasted around 1 hour and 45mins. The commute home is around 2 hours.

I have to admit before accepting my new job I couldn't see myself being bothered with such a lengthy commute. However, as the months roll on I do find myself becoming more annoyed with this commute.

I don't know..... Perhaps I should just be happy I have a job and stop the moaning.

How does your commute to and from work take (on average)?

I would never go back to that length of commute again. 4 hours out of my day just in travelling would require a frankly obscene salary for me to even consider.

I have a 30 minute commute each way. It's only 7km but Auckland traffic ...

I have a silly commute which loops all over the place. It starts in my bedroom, then out, turn right and into the bathroom, back to the bedroom again but then out and left, down the stairs to the kitchen and then back out again(!) and into the office. Ridiculous.

Cycle?

5 mins each way on my bike. Not sure I could take spending an extra 20 hours a week travelling to and from work.

4.5 miles each way, about 20 mins on my bike whe it's warm, not much quicker in the car when it's cold.

Same as you pretty much, I live in buckinghamshire (mainly bc the standard of living is much better than student ville) and work in oxford. Get up at 6.30 leave house at 7 into work just before 9....its boring more than anything as cost isn't an issue tbh but I'm commited to seeing out my current job till the project ends in 2.5 years time.

Takes me about 10 minutes in the car, i wouldn't do a 2 hour commute unless i was desperate!

Have a 20 mile commute that takes me 30-45 minutes through an area of outstanding natural beauty (not that I can see any of it this time of year). I've done it for over 4 years now, sometimes I get the train in (which takes longer and is more expensive) just for a bit of variety.

Used to do a long commute - 1 hour 45 mins minimum every day each way round the M25. Looking back I don't know honestly know how I stayed sane (maybe I didn't).

Always worked in the same town so never more then 5-6 minutes :D

I used to be a field based engineer though and it sucked to have to goto say nottingham at 4pm, and not get back till like 9-10pm.

It depends on the type of drive too, I go from SB up to Bakersfield twice a month which is 150 miles each way but I leave at 6:15 in the morning so the roads are dead, put it on cruise control and brake 2.5 hours later at the right freeway exit.

Which is a million times better than the twice a month I go to L.A. where leaving at 5pm it takes me between 2 and 2.5 hours to travel the 70 miles back. Which is even worse when you consider that the final 30 miles take about 30 minutes. 20mph average for 2 hours \o/ Utter suckage :-/

If I leave at 6:30am it is about 35 minutes on a bus, train and tube. That's not too bad. If I do the late shift, then it's about an hour in the morning rush hour on a squashed-like-sardines train and tube :(.
The only reason I hate working in London; the morning/evening travel chaos.

20 minutes on the bus each way, I used to do 1 hour each way a few years ago and it sucked.

Yep, used to take me an hour on a bad day (whilst working for the previous employer). One bus and I was there.

Now this is my route

10/15min walk to turnpike lane (picadilly line) > change at finsbury park (Victoria line) > change at highbury and islington (London overground line) > change at west hamsted (jubilee line > change at Finchley road (metropolitan line) > commute comes to an end in uxbridge

So yeah....... Rather long
