Your country needs YOU!

This is nonsense.

No amount of force multipliers will replace infantry - and the army is already bare bones.

I disagree. I see no situation where the UK is going to need ground troops. Not in a large number.

During the last two wars, we had young men queueing up to go and fight for their country. Kids as young as 16 were signing up.

My, how the attitude has changed. I think the things I’m reading in this thread are despicable. Your grandfathers and great grandfathers would be ashamed of you.

I’m too old to fight on the front line but if there were an equivalent to the Home Guard, I’d be banging on their door, despite being old and unfit.
We live in the age of information people are more clued in than ever on why wars are fought and certainly do not want to fight for corrupted old people in power.

The woke mob has also demonized anything patriotic so you can't blame people for not caring about their country.

Do you not feel the flag $shaggers of the world have helped in demonizing patriotism themselves?...... When I think of Patriotism these days, I just picture some bawldy, carling swigging, stone island wearing racist geezer, who partakes in a bit of weekend football thuggery along with his XL bully........ Or maybe I'm just stereotyping

Imagine if this attitude applied to everything in life, just walk away from any problem without owning it and trying to deal with it...... Granted I now spend the majority of my time outside of the UK due to work, but my home and residence is still the UK, even with the state the country is currently in and the totally rudderless and inept government of the past decade or so, I wouldn't just up-sticks and permanently move away from it if I didn't hold a belief that hopefully further down the line things could be somewhat fixed and lessons could be learned..... But heyho, whatever works for you buttercup.

There's also the argument that it's better to leave something your not happy with if you can't fix it.
I still hope to emigrate from the UK in a few years. It might not happen. But it is the goal.

Sorry the "woke" mob have done what now? Loool

Some of my family already have, Australia and New Zealand, my sister and brother in-law are most likely going to make the same move before my nephew starts school....... The UK for me at the moment is a just my hub, it's nothing more than my home, I don't rely on it for work or much else, in theory I could emigrate without batting an eyelid, hell, even work have offered me residence in the US, which is probably more of a sideways step.

Maybe, somewhere down the line it will become obvious that it's broken beyond repair and that I was just been naive to even think it could recover, if that day comes, I'll happily put my hands in the air and accept defeat, I'll then pull the pin to wherever, until then I hold some hope.

Anything to do with national pride is labeled as "problematic" if you haven't seen that happening then you've been living under a rock. Very evident on this thread many people do not care about their country.

I can assure you in non-woke parts of the world it's the exact opposite. You can't demonize patriotism and then be surprised that people would not sign up for the arm forces.

Getting rid of nukes is literally the worst thing we could do in the current situation and ironic people resenting military service wanting them gone as that just makes it more likely they'd end up having to serve.

IMO a very high chance, higher than a lot of people think or will even allow for, that if the UK didn't have nuclear weapons in this current situation Russia would take more direct action against us, potentially even nuclear, in an attempt to intimidate NATO into backing off - something I don't think a lot of people really comprehend is that the likes of Putin have something of megalomania and we mean nothing to them - they'd happily nuke us if they could get away with it to further their own ends with little more consideration than if we were ants. (EDIT: Actually we'd likely have not gotten involved as much in the first place, which isn't a good thing as it just means Ukraine falls sooner and Russia marches on - this wouldn't have ended at Ukraine in that situation, maybe still doesn't depending on how things pan out).

I'm looking at new Zealand myself.
Out the way, keeps is self too itself. It matches me quite well. Bit of a barrier for me getting there. I've got a few years to make it happen. But I've never seen patriotic myself.

For me UK is tending to further away from what I agree with. But there are other bigger pull desires from abroad but mounting push issues from the UK.

Yeah, certainly wouldn't class myself as a patriotic sort, more a dreamer and hopeless romantic, always looking for the silver lining.

New Zealand or Canada are probably my top choices, if I was still in Europe than I'd probably look at Austria, but going off what some of the doom-mongers in this thread are saying I'd be watching nukes flying overhead and eurofighters having dogfights with SU-57s in no time.

All I will say on this apparent future conflict which is ramping up to hit is all in the next few decades, Russia seem to be having a few issues even conquering the Ukraine, I can't really see them steamrolling over Europe anytime soon.

Absolutely not. The UK is not worth fighting for.
There’s no need. The Russians have got to get through Ukraine first and then Poland.

The Poland that is quietly arming herself to the teeth and is waiting patiently for Belurus to do something stupid again.

Like a little European Texas.

The story doing the rounds today is if the UK is involved in a future war the public might be required to join the armed forces.

What are peoples views on it?

I think in the event Russia attacked other European countries then I'd do my part, as it's a rerun of the start of WW2 when Hitler took over Czechslovakia, and then attacked Poland. We'd be in the firing line anyway.

I think this is a signal that we should be having a national service like they do in Nordic countries.

Russia will not go to war with NATO. She'll do everything in her power to avoid that conflict. She'll scream, beg, plead, grovel, make the usual empty promises, and try every other trick in the book. But she will not go to war with NATO.

So my views on this are 'We have nothing to worry about. It's purely hypothetical.'

If Russia do go any further it'll be game over.
They would be crushed. Unfortunately they are crazy enough from what it seems to go to the nuke option. And no where would be safe. Europe would be the worst affected. I can't imagine Europe would be inhabitable. I mean the entire world could be gone in terms of humans.

IMO the options are binary.
The don't go nuclear and everything is fine
They do and it's game over.

Conscription is just a headline to get more military funding

Can't move to Europe thanks to Brexit.
I bet you haven’t even tried.

If we are fighting the Russians then it’s because they are rolling across Europe. Defending your country or Europe is one thing but your family and everything else you enjoy in the world you are protecting. It’s the world we live in under Russia that is something no one would want.

Sad as in its really bad that that's how crap the UK has become over the years.
There's very little patriotism it's been eroded since I can remember at least....
I'd be useless in any army but I guess I'd do any support role possible

Patriotism/nationalism is a stupid concept anyway.

I don't understand being automatically/unequivocally proud of the country you were just by chance born in.

But what about being "woke" has done it or have you been watching too much GB news? You know what being "woke" is right?

Also what "none woke" parts of the world?
