Your country needs YOU!

I think someone mentioned upthread but I would imagine part of this discussion, especially in an election year, is trying to get increased public support for more military spending, so “you” don’t have to go to war.

Was hearing on the Forces News YT channel apparently recruitment is tanking.

This was my take on it a few days ago. Classic fear mongering, though judging by the state of the forces, greater spending is exactly what's needed.

Yeah, a fair bit needed anyway but seems like they’re pushing for more. Hopefully that’s the case instead of genuine fear of WW3.

The biggest score was those who would not fight and would refuse to be called up.

I think this is the right trying to do the 'reds under the bed' scare. If you look at what is actually happening, Russia cannot even beat Ukraine, but suddenly, according to Generals etc they are going to attack Western Europe. Their casualty rate is high from Ukraine and they even had to promise prisoners a pardon if they joined the forces but somehow, according to these clowns, they are going to steamroller over Europe. Utter BS.

Well, the USAF seem to think they can still be useful because they are deploying 100 B61-12 gravity bombs to their base at RAF Lakenheath. The B61 series are "dial-a-yield" devices. Mod 12 can produce a yield of 0.3 Kt, 1.5 Kt, 10 Kt or 50 Kt. At maximum yield it is in the strategic range (W76 mod 0 used in our Trident D5 missiles only has a yield of 100 Kt), but below that it's tactical. B61-12 is a recently upgraded version of the B61 mod 3/4 bombs, it is laser-guided with an accuracy of 30 metres. It can be used at its top setting for destroying reinforced bunkers and at its lower yields for attacking softer targets with acceptable collateral damage (including submarines in varying depths of water without sinking nearby allied shipping).

One of my local bases, happy they are there means that they are a guaranteed a target and as such I will get melted if it all kicks off

When you've got normally fairly staid financial commentators such as Joe Blogs discussing alarmist material stating Russia will attack NATO in 2025, you've got to wonder what's going on. Granted, the source is Bild, a German tabloid, so these need to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Russia would need to draft in a huge amount of weaponry and ammunition from it's allies, and realistically even with that, a NATO coalition would wipe the floor with them. Putin, Medvedev and numerous Kremlin mouthpieces have raised the spectre of tactical nuclear weapons being used to neutralise increasing support for Ukraine, but each line in the sand has been crossed without incident so far. In a direct conflict, or even the loss of strategic territory such as Crimea, who is to say how far they'll go to avoid a humiliating defeat?

From what I could find Joe Blogs is a Youtube channel where they try to get people to create Youtube channels. Why would a 'staid financial commentator' anyway know anymore about Russian military aims than any other punter?
Due to the high casualty rate at present where is Russia going to get the manpower for this 2025(next year) invasion of Poland(from Youtube vid). Poland has more ties to Russia than other western countries at present anyway.
Russians are already going to other countries to dodge Putin's draft. They have difficulty in getting weaponry, at present, we are told. They have had to resort to N. Korea and Iran to get stuff.
Russian history shows that they will continue despite the cost until a new leader emerges, then it can all be blamed on Putin. The only way it could go further is if western countries(read America) decide to ramp up against Russia.
Otherwise it is all BS.

Biggest scores from 1 gender as well :p

Gotta imagine how uncharacteristically quiet the militant feminists would be if this actually gained traction

Considering we've been in the longest time of peace I suppose something like this was bound to happen. I still feel we should be focussing on diplomatic power rather than thinking about arming ourselves for war.

Ultimately we live in a nuclear age with modern weapons, it's not as if we're going to be digging trenches and sending people "over the top" to be mowed down relentlessly - I fear if we do "go to war" the consequences / stakes are likely to need more than conscripted novices to help us defend the UK.

a military in desperate need of funding and an outsourced recruitment process that fundamentally does not function. a nice dose of fear to get the public onside so someone has to at least pretend to try and fix that is my guess.

although with all the noise being made by the usual suspects, escalation seems to be approaching.

wheres this recruitment drive coming from? is ww3 on the cards now?

I believe it's political posturing to "scare" Putin et al.

Also a bit like covid, it's a bit of population / societal engineering. Get people whipped up into a frenzy.

If you think regular soldiers are going to want to have low skilled conscripts by them.... I don't know, what could possibly go wrong?! :D

I have played many hours over the last 20 years of Call of Duty, Battlefield, Rising Storm Vietnam, to know I suck at shooting anything and would be hopeless.

I would still like to be trained to shoot though just in case any drunk Chechens think i look like a goat.

You are correct, but you skip nuclear weapons entirely. We dont need any soilders (frontline infantry) at all, not even one.

We do need pilots, and mechanics, and engineers though etc, and we should have mandatory military service for the purposes of discipline.
