Your current Fish tank Setups!

That tank is amazing. I would have to have in black though. How much it set you back?

I have had a guppie randomly die on me today. Shame as he was the most unique looking one out of the lot (also the smallest).

That is rather epic, any chance of a write up on all setup etc?

I'm guessing you had to do a fair amount of work already to get the house setup for it with the tiles underneath. Kind of a shame you couldn't hang the lights directly from the ceiling though, were the cables too short?

Got a hovercraft fish (some sort of box fish) at the weekend, was doing well until ventured too close to a powerhead and got stuck found him inside powerhead this morning,, :( Sucks

Sorry guys :P I will post updates been busy piping lol.

Yes the lights I preferred to have them on the brackets as then if I ever decide to change lighting unit I am not fixed to the positions.

I got my tank at the weekend a ROMA 240, bigger than I was orignally wanting but really wanted an external filter so it kind of made sense, just fits under the stairs.

Q: I assume you have to use both the lights in the tank? Because I only got one pair of those screw bits that attach the lights to the unit...I presume this is an error?

heres a few pics of my marine setup :)

How many tropical guys run sumps?
It would be interesting if people can post up their tank sizes, stocks, filtration setups and maintenance regimes.

Tank
190litre trigon corner (+40 litre sump)
Sump is a triple layer trickle fed from a homemade overflow, with return pump (zero maintenance)
Fluval 205 (rinse sponges every 6 months in tank water)
Home made moving bed bottle type filter, powered by airstone (zero maintenance)
Temperature maintained at around 25-26 degrees.

Stock
3 clown loach
3 Brilliant Rasbora
3 Assorted rainbows
2 Convicts

In terms of maintenance, I add a watering can of treated water every month or so to cover evaporation from sump, I don't clean algea from the rear glass panels, just the front bowed glass, as this allows a healthy balance. It also provides grazing areas for the fish.

I didnt used to do any water tests once the tank was established and convicts were breeding happily, but I did last week out of curiosity with a new kit and as expected, all the parameters were perfect :)

I'm afraid my setup is pretty damn dull, but would be very interested in some more details (photos etc) of your setup.

One of the plans for our new house (later in the year - assuming all goes well) is upgrading my (small tropical) tank and using the old one as a sump to try and minimise the maintenance as much as possible, purely in research and planning mode at the moment.

To join in though:

Tank:
42L thing (no idea what it is, second hand gift from a friend)
Tetra Tec IN 400 Plus Internal Filter
eBay special 30 LED light strip
Some submersible heater thing @ 25.5C (monitored by a Kunt - http://www.amperic.com/ - random kickstarter)

Stock
4 Neon Tetra
3 Dwarf Chain loaches
3 Rosy barbs
3 Ghost Shrimp

Maintenance wise I do a glass scrape, substrate hoover, single (out of two) filter rinse (in tank water) and ~10% water change once a fortnight or so. Levels get checked less and less over the last couple of years and seem to be stable

Here is a pic of my sump. I am looking to add phosphate reactor and do a bit more work on the sump but phosphate levels are low , nitrates are less than 5ppm so until I see a rise im happy with it at the moment! Next step is adding some more fish and starting to add coral. It is an upgrade had it running around 3 months now :)

I do fancy the Aqua One AquaReef 400 after doing some research, is that live rock in the middle of the sump to replace the standard balls that come with it mate, also what size hoses have you got on the pump :)

please do yourself a massive favour. get rid of G220 skimmer, its toally useless.

i upgraded mine to bubble magus C6. i could believe the different it made. i strongly recommend to start phosphate reducer right NOW. cos live rock and sand are very good at absorbing phosphate for very long time so you'll get to the point where ALL phosphate will be dumping back into water and it'll be forever problem.

phoban 150 with rowaphos media are the best to go for.

another thing, get rid of the live rock in sump, its not needed as you already have live rock in display tank. also the water flow in sump is way too slow for the live rock. eventually it will be come a nitrate factory.

How big is your tank?

It looks too small for 1 tang let alone 2.

Hope you have done your research, all them fish bar the clowns get quite large.

Have you got any pics of your setup wesley without me trawling through pages and pages on here, can i have a breakdown of what gear you have and the way your sump is all setup.

I do like these but they are very dear:(

I got a 180L-ish tank free from a friend and it's looking good so far. It came with a Fluval U4 internal filter which has been doing well in the tank for over a year.

However my housemate has just got rid of the tank in his bedroom, so the "new" one has inherited a few more fish and the possibility of using his Fluval 206 external filter.

Question is, which filter is best? On paper the U4 has more flow, but the 206 has more space for media yet has a lower tank capacity rating. Thoughts?
