Your current Fish tank Setups!

Yes.
Goldfish aactually require quite a large tank, but people think that putting them in bowls with no filtration is ok. It really isn't.

I used to keep 4 in a 110L tank, I gave them to my mate when I moved house along with a 200L tank and a filter to run it and they are huge now (apart from the couple that have die:( )

I have a Question:
What is the best combination of light tube colours to get the best colours out of your tank ? (it is a Juwel Rio 400 with the standard 2 tube light unit on it)

and another
I have just added some blue LEDs to the top of my tank held on with selotape.
Previous experience tells me this will not last long, but I wanted to see what it looked like before I started splashing money out on a more permanent method.
What can I used to stick them under the light unit ?

I got some "exterior mounting tape" to fit my ebay special LED "moonlight" 60 LED strip light to one of the lid flaps on my roma 200. My led light came with clips which fit to suckers. Rather than use the suckers, I used the tape to secure the clips to the lid flap.
Seems to work for the moment!

I may be experimenting with the placement, so I may go for securing the clips to the lid using aquarium silicone.

New Tank

Picked up a Juwel Rio 180 at the weekend, was not planning on buying the tank until next month but it was priced at £300 for the tank and cabinet in a local shop.

I'm not happy at all with the aqua-scaping as it stands, just have some basic plants so far. I have got 2 decent sized bits of bog wood soaking in the bath currently, I plan on re-doing it all once the tank starts to get established. My local stockists in Thetford didn't seem to stock much at all, so I need to venture out a bit wider to see what's on offer.

Got my ammonia today, just waiting for my test kit to start cycling it.

Any suggestions with where I can go for inspiration for the aqua-scaping let me know. Also if you know of any decent stockists around me.

Im concerned about that white "Fluffy" stuff that's appeared on the nose of 2 of the darker/smaller fishes..only noticed it when i come to transfer them to the new tank..Something that should be treated or is it okay?

The bigger fish does not have it on his nose.

Nice tank. I loved the gold fish tank when I had them. The twin tails. It's been so long since I can remember the names but I had two Black Moors. They were awesome fish. They loved the 30 gallon tank. One of them turned completely gold. Had them for many years.

Just got myself a Rio 125, very nice second tank for me.

Is that just normal gravel you have there with nothing underneath it, as you won't grow much in just gravel hold no nutrients.
You could have gone down the ADA Aqua soil for aquascaping plus it's great for setting up new tanks as it releases ammonia for the first few weeks.

Very nice end product famas, and always good to see people having a bash themselves! Did you just laminate some thin ply and then use the threaded rod to clamp it while setting in a curve, or is there another approach at work there?

It is just gravel, its also a bit thin at the moment. I think I need to build it up with something.

Looking at Aqua soil, its too dark for what I was after, is there anything else that I should be looking at to possibly put under my gravel? Also that ADA stuff is rather expensive for the volume I'd need. Please correct me if I am wrong but I'm basing it on:

9L bag at will cover 9000cm3

For a minimal 3-4cm layer id need w100 x d42 x 4 = 16800cm = 2 Bags.

I'm not going for a huge planted set up and looking to keep it low-tec.

Can anyone give me some advice on how i should be caring for my goldfish setup?

How regularly should i be cleaning the external filters?
How regularly should i do a water change?..and how much?

I noticed wilko sell these "Aquarium Weekly Cleaner" & "Aquarium Chlorine Control" (which i assume is tap safe?)

Should i be using that "Aquarium Weekly Cleaner" or is it not the best to do?..the tank has only been setup a week so far,The fish seem to be very happy though. ;)

You could always use Laterite, although this will have to go in first then the gravel on top.

I have done some some searching and ordered some Tetra Complete which I will top with my existing gravel. Its not the optimal but seems to be the next best alternative for reasonable money, I'm trying not to let the £££ get out of control.

Not started cycling yet so best time to empty it all down and re-do the substrate.
