What is the best heater to buy these days?
Went away for 2 days and came back to a tank full of dead fishMy heater had broken and was stuck on the water was roasting! Tank was great for almost 3 years no disease and the same fish until this happened.
Using the chance to upgrade but dont want the same thing to happen again!
Any heater can bork. I've not found one better than another. I've got old cheap heaters that were running for 9-10 years and other branded ones that fail after 1-3 years.
For my 400L aquarium, I have two (lower wattage) Eheim Jager heaters (one at each end of the tank) plugged in to one of these controllers.
I only chose Eheim as they had extra-long power leads and their CS isn't bad.
It has an audible alarm for if the set temperature goes above or below the selected temperature range.
Had it for a few years and so far so good. The alarm has already alerted me to failed heaters (at 2am which wasn't good but they just died rather than being stuck on.)
So even if both heaters get stuck in the ON position and they go above the safe temp, the external controller will cut their power.
For it all to go wrong, all three thermostats would have to fail somehow.
Always worth having a spare heater in the drawer.
