Your current Fish tank Setups!

How things have changed from when I was a spotty teenager with fishtanks.

I remember having a little 1.5ft tropical setup with at least 40 fish in... insane when you think about it.

When I did clean it out the fish went in the bath while it was being cleaned... water was always straight from tap. No tests were every carried out, and water was changed when it went 'brown'. The only filter you had was the undergraval type powered by air rising in tubes, plants were always plastic and the 'boss' of the tank was always a 'rtb shark' who lived in a castle lol

Funny thing is I didn't have that many deaths... well except the time I bought a african knifefish and it eat 12 neons in one night :(

Yeah it is annoying....I mean part of it is because they've improved how the fish are kept prior so if they were to go to a tank at home that was like the old set ups they'd have a fit...

Which light units do you have? Last time I was reading up on marine 5-6 years ago, they seem to be on the turning point of having decent LED lighting for coral growth and colour.

LED is the way forward for marines now, I shall be getting the Radion Gen 3 which i think those are in the pic:)

I use Radion G3's however they do not compare in terms of Growth and Colour in SPS :(. LPS they rule but its really hard getting a good balance compared to Metal Halides of T5 tubes.

Does it matter that much where the lights are positioned? My tubes are housed on a sort of gantry that you can slide back and forth, depending on your preference. I've always had it as far back as it can go, with no untoward results. However, I was thinking that by pushing it nearer the front of the aquarium, plants and fish will be projected at the viewer that bit better.

Two of my Corys are following each other around and constantly nudging each other playfully. I think it's Catfish sexy time.

Feels rude to watch!

^^ That's what mine have been up to; could well have been their eggs that I kept noticing on the driftwood or glass. They usually are more inclined to to do this when temperatures are cooler - as it would be in the wild when spawning occurs.

I tend to have my two positioned 1/3 in from front and 2/3 at rear. I have daylight tube for front and slightly warmer but blue tinged bulb for rear which I find gives tank a bit of depth (for whatever reason).

I suppose it would also depend on the natural light the tank gets as to where this is positioned.

If you only have one strip light then I would just be tempted to put it in the middle or 2/5 in from the front. Ultimately it depends on what you’re trying to achieve with the tank, i.e. plant growth, aquascaping or just general tank lighting.

Yeah fish colours tend to look brightest when lit from the front (you get more iridescence reflecting back at the viewer). Lots of fish shops have the lights right at the front of the tank for this reason.

Got two bristlenose pleco today for my tank (both less than an inch) interesting watching them zip about. Going to need to sort another cave for them though as the one iv got won't be enough for the two of them.

125L tank current stock
3 x xray tetra
1 x guppy
2x plattys
1x albino black widow
1x albino bristlenose pleco
1x black bristlenose pleco

What room more do I have? . Looking at more tetras if possible I love my xray tetras plus there quite a tough fish (unless they venture behind the filter and get stuck)

Do you have some driftwood in there for them? That's an essential part of their diet.

Very roughly, I'd estimate that you're currently between one third and half stocked. Obviously, that is filtration / maintenance dependent.

No to driftwood :( Im looking at bogwood or driftwood though for them in the coming days, there on cleanup right now so i won't disturb them.

Aqua calculators estimate half stocked based on my filter. Im going to add more biomedia as the u3 has a very short ammount which comes with it

BN Plecs are omnivores with a veggie preference. Veg contains less nutrition than meat, so by volume/weight, vegetarians require more food. This produces more waste, which more often than not means more tank maintenance in the way of "sawdust vacuuming" is required most days.

They require their own dedicated food, they are not "cleanup crew" that live off the scraps and faeces from other inhabitants of the tank.

Wood is not essential to Ancistrus cirrhosis in terms of dietary needs, unlike some other species like Flash Plecs (formerly known as L204).

They have plec pellets :) is wood for the bn not essential? I have all sorts of food for them they will likely be tret more special than most my fish. Broccoli, pellets, algae wafers etc so far is my stock

Got a piece of driftwood. Its sat in a bucket of boiling water at the moment to see if it leaches any tanins. It does sink though so am hoping its pre-cured
