Your current Fish tank Setups!

Me and my Dad are thinking of getting back into this, We've been looking at getting a small-ish tropical tank that would fit nicely into a corner somewhere.

We were looking at getting tetras and the likes to go in there, but unsure as where to shop as been looking at the local pet shops and they seem to be expensive for what you're getting.

Anyone shop online for tanks and had any experiences?

Thanks

Depends on the size. Some people think 25l is smallish, others think it's a 160l 3 footer!

The price of tanks in retail shops appears to have shot up in the last 6 months or so. There were lots of good offers around 18 months ago but they disappeared.

The online sellers are usually cheaper on larger tanks. My 3ft came from Pets at Home as it was on special offer, but a couple of the lads at work have used Seapets and were happy with them.

Snails - lots of them! ;) Get a couple of Zebra loaches to sort that out...

Not guppies. At first glance they're possibly a tetra or small rainbow fish of some sort.

im getting rid of the tank, so just need to know what they are for passing them on to who ever wants them.

i think they may well be rainbow fish.

thanks.

I think they're probably dwarf neon rainbowfish (Melanotaenia praecox), although I could be wrong.

Frozo - I'd aim for something at least 80L, anything smaller and you'll regret it quite quickly when you realise hoiw limited your stocking options are. The bigger the better! Check out the AquaOne range fo tanks, they have a pretty good built in filter system and lots of places online carry them.

Quick update, got rid of the glass fish as they're meant for brackish water (wish they had mentioned that when I asked, oh well).

Thinking of getting something bigger as well, wouldn't mind having some other species. Yours looks awesome King4aDay btw.

How're you finding that Edge raikiri? I've always liked the look of them but figured they'd be a pain as I'm always fiddling around inside my tanks.

A few updated shots from the underwater bit of mine:

Just set up a little 27 litre nano cube this evening to keep some shrimp in and give me something to watch next to my desk...

(Upped the contrast to hide the fact the water still needs to clear)

That's awesome, where did you get the grass? Been looking for something like that.

Edit: Edge is going pretty well although as you say, it's a bugger to clean/reaarange anything.

The grass is Eleocharis acicularis. You can find it in lots of fish shops/online, but if you get it from a pond supplier then you'll pay about £2.50 for 9x9cm pot, rather than about £4-6 for a 3cm pot from a fish shop!

Not planning on it if I can help it. Planted densely to begin with so as not to have t o worry about slow growth rates. As long as the plants stay healthy and grow slow I'll be happy. May use liquid carbon if they start falling over.

thinking about getting myself an edge and going tropical with it.

what sort of combos is best in this setup? obviously tetras are a good choice, cloud fish???
and can i put a Snow White Lobster in the mix aswell or will it just get to big? or best to stick to shrimp and cats? :)

Just set up my tank this afternoon :) I got the tank for free, so got myself a filter today 'Fluval U4' and a couple of plants and a rock, along with the water treatment stuff.

Going to get a few more things to fill the space, and some fish in about a week once it's all settled down. I'm going to be having tropical fish, I love neon tetras so there will be lots of them with some loaches, guppies and whatever else.

Also need to get a proper background, currently have a raterbated picture I stuck up there for now :p
