Your current Fish tank Setups!

Was trying with a blade and making no progress was teasing out the filter with a plastic fish slice while trying. But found if I just used the fish slice and pressed hard it sliced through the silicone. So filter out glass cleaned and now to find sand

can i ask, used tank fully cleaned and sand ordered for base, what bottles of chemicals will i need to set up for fishless cycle ?
Thanks

I just use household ammonia, I think I got it from Homebase years ago. Just make sure it doesn’t have any surfactants and you’ll need to adjust for the concentration of the bottle if it’s different to the guide you are following.

You can use bottled bacteria to speed it up but it’s not essential.

You don't need anything really. Just put some plants in it with a filter running and leave it for about a month without water changes etc. It will sort itself out naturally.

The chemicals don't really speed it up tbh. It always seems to take about month no matter what you try.

Thanks all it’s for tropical and just added my sand yesterday and even after washing it till clear it’s clouded up the tank so after seeing if it’s settled overnight it looks like a water change today

Was gonna go for one of these when I was going to build my own acrylic tank. Will be interested to see the build quality of it.

Just ordered the shadow box tonight, had to get it direct from Synergy Reef as the only uk distributor AQUARISTIK was just blanking my messages lol and his website won't let you checkout

Nice one! When does the tank arrive?

I don't understand why they aren't available over here. Can't be a shipping/weight issue like it is with their sumps.

Same for most of the marine gear for the hobby, we get all the scraps here lol.
Tank is a year or just under away i think, with all the gear it's popping into the 5 figures and lots to do in room first, had a sparky round the other week to sort out a new circuit the new build

Shadow overflow box be here tomorrow, customs absolutely clobbered me with charges for a bit of acrylic , lucky I don't need anything else for the new build from America.

Any help with a fishless cycle on a 180l tank using drTims ammonia. I get low ammonia readings but max nitrates & nitrites, so does this mean I dose some ammonia to get these down ?
Thanks

Fresh or salt water? What is the test kit, what’s its range (ppm) and how much nitrate to you get out of the tap? What steps have you taken so far?

The cycle normally goes ammonia > nitrite > nitrate and ends there. It’s possible to stall your cycle if you have too much ammonia or nitrite. Likewise if you are using tap water, there will be nitrate already present which will be picked up on the test kit.

fresh water using NTlabs aquarium test kit, sand substrate all washed with wood and 10 small plants in a 180l tank using an oase biomaster 350 with matrix media and dosing ammonia with DrTims ammonia and also seachem stability and prime at the start but not now, also did a 25% water change yesterday. water out of tap after sitting overnight is 7.0 and the same out of tank, nitrate, nitrite and ammonia out of tap is 0. This morning ammonia is 0 or below as sample is lighter than the 0 indicator, nitrate is 80 and nitrite is 8.0.
Thanks

Thanks

Nitrite has crept up very high, I’d suggest doing an 80% change (taking nitrite down to a more sensible 1.6 and dosing more ammonia.

You aren’t meant to do water changes during the cycle but is ammonia or nitrite get too high it can stall. How much ammonia are you dosing? You don’t really want to be doing more than 2ppm.
