Thanks dosing 2ppm and dosing either every morning or every second morning after testing just to keep ammonia up a bit, as it can read 0 and the nitrites and nitrates are still way too high

Don’t worry about the nitrates, they are meant to be there and you only take them out with water changes. For the most part, tropicals can tolerate pretty high levels, I’m 40ppm out of the tap.
The bacteria for nitrite can take a little while to get going but give it a week or so and they should be on their way.

Thanks I can get 0 ammonia every morning so I dose it up to around 2 ppm but still getting 8 & 80 for the others
You need to slow down the ammonia dosing, a lot. Put in less, less often. Once ammonia starts going down you are meant to dose it per how much nitrite there is so it doesn’t get up too high.
Is the nitrite reading of 8 maxing out the test kit? It could be way higher in reality.
Most don’t go particularly high because everything is dead at that point. You don’t want the nitrite to rise that high otherwise it can stall.
Id suggest changing most of the water as nitrite is too high and needs to be bought under control.

Thanks to you both I thought I had to add ammonia to feed the nitrites and kept adding it to see if it dropped, so checked water and still the same 0 ammonia and high for the other two so did a 50%+ water changes and only added stability and prime and will leave alone
Just to update I ran out of DrTims ammonia and the only local that sold it had also ran out so gave me a bottle of DrTims one and only and two days later results down at 0 or very near across the board dosed some ammonia and away the next day so water change and added 3 black widows and 8 corys and they seem to be fine so just being patient for a while now before adding anything else. Thanks for all the help on here

The new tank is cycling now for another week or so with new filter and some live plants. Then only planing to put some 10 or so shrimp at first.
I have another 25L tank with 2 Molys, 5 neon and a Beta, I could put the Dosator thingy there.
With the shrimp multiplying, what do you have to do? I mean do you remove them?(haven't thought of that!)

You get a pump and filter media hidden off to the side. You can drop a heater in there too. The lights are strong enough to keep my plants happy.
I'm getting on with mine really well, but looking for more space soon. That's with 6 Tetra, 6 Rasbora, 3 Zebra Loach, assassin snails and 2 catfish, and shrimp. Yeah it's getting cosy so I'm going for a big oak cabinet tank soon.

they're good I have used them in the psst and will be getting another soon. Also have their wireless hub thing set up to a temp probes around the house, tanks and ponds aswell.
They seem to understand the niche markets they work with and are the only people who do some of the stuff it feels like.

I've had one for about a year and it's been good.
I'm using a D-D titanium heater with it (which require an external controller). They are way better and safer than the cheap glass ones.
You need to go bigger than that for any interesting fish. If you get a tank which is long and shallow you can make up for the lack of volume and have small schooling or bottom dwelling fish. Might have to make or have one custom made though as they won't be a standard size. Shallow tanks can be made to look really good if you build up out of the water and have small waterfalls etc.

I've been gifted a free Juwel Vision 260L with Eheim Classic 600 pump/filter, so upgraded my fish and shrimp to that tank. It's a bit scratched, no idea what the previous owners have ben doing to clean it.
Dropped in a new heater, filter material and LED light in place of the fluorescent bulb.
So that leaves the 60L Fluval to do something else with. I've tried to do a bit more of a "scape" with this one.
I'm steadily planting both more heavily as I go.
Now that just leaves me with what I want to put in the 60L.
In the big tank I have:
Cardinal Tetra
Harlequin Rasbora
Oto Catfish
Zebra Loach
Shrimp

So that leaves the 60L Fluval to do something else with. I've tried to do a bit more of a "scape" with this one.

Looks good. But I would be worried about cleaning around the stones close to/touching the glass.

Decided to get back into tropicals, I was going to do marine again but the variety in NZ is poor, and very expensive, so I sold my aquarium and have gone tropical instead. I have recently purchased an Aqua one ecostyle 81, already well established and tenanted. Not really a fan of guppies and swordtails so i'll be giving most of them away.
I have added a male / female pair of Fundulapanchax Gardneri gold (Gold killifish). I've always wanted to keep killifish and there is a breeder not too far from me who breeds a few different varieties so i'll be setting up some species tanks in the near future (rack style). I am the only non- breeder in the country to have a pair of these now apparently, popularity of killis is pretty scarce here. The breeder has a few varieties I like, and i'll be getting some Nothobranchus Korthausae's, some clown killis, also Australes. I have also added an L183 starlight plec to the tank too. That's it so far. Future plans include Apistogramma when we get more in the country, and i'll be setting up a betta tank for some specialist bettas, we have a great variety here! Also in my future plans will be a dwarf cichlid setup, which i've always wanted, this will be around 200 litres but that will be a while yet. I've well and truly got the bug back
