Your current Fish tank Setups!

Some new critters for the tank.

They are pretty small at the min. German bred and used to tap water, so I'm not planning on doing anything special apart from maybe doing two water changes a week instead of one.

I'm feeding then beef heart as that's what they are used to, but it's messy as hell and clouding up the water so I need to do something about that. They seem to be eating anything I put in there though so maybe I make that more of a treat!

@b0rn2sk8 think the manager saw me coming lol I made the mistake of asking for advice as I wanted something I could use now for tropical (most likely an Oscar or two) or possibly cold water and then convert to marine, albeit on a cannister filter once we've moved in a year or two.

Got a lot of decisions to make now as I thought I'd get something much smaller.

This is it, though got a light with mine that cost £125 as well.

Though may cancel that and just get a higher spec light?

What would you do with this beast of a tank? Last I had was 60 litres lol

Pro tip, fully shut down your tropical tank before you move. If you stock it now, do it with something that you can move on easily.

When I moved in 2019 with my 180 litre tank, more of the day was taken up dealing with that and not killing everything than moving the entire rest of a 4 bed house and garage combined.

If I was to do it again, I would either shut it down before I moved or moved it twice, once to a relatives/friends before moving day and then again to the new house. The former would be preferred!

I personally probably wouldn't run a large marine tank without a sump. Better/easier to keep it tropical. With regards the light if you were to go the marine route then something at that budget from MA would probably be capable of growing soft coral but not much else. For lighting on a budget (but still expensive) that will grow hard coral you could look at evergrow or similar Chinese brands or second hand.

Thanks, I'll check them out. I'm actually really excited about this. What would you guys stock it with? I live in a moderately soft water area. Atleast according to United utilities. I want as much colour as possible.

depends how soft your talking. you mentioned Oscar before which would limit tank mates a bit when they get larger.

If your waters around 6.5-7 you could probably go with an Oscar, blue acara's and rainbows but the oscar would probably become an issue when hes full size. Depends if your after a few large fish or a community.

geophagus, jewel cichlid, green terrors, Jack dempseys etc are options for larger colourful fish that can work in a lower ph. South american cichlids in general are something to consider

Had some fish die over the last couple of weeks, not sure why. The water is changed weekly (80%), water parameters are all good and no sign of diseases.
Got a couple of Blue Lobsters today - they are interesting creatures to watch; moving the gravel around and climbing over decorations.

they are very cool, easy to look after?

I've just tried out my new water changing setup. 30L plaster's bucket, 25L plastic jerry can, some old eheim tubing and a cheap pond pump - means i can syphon out on a loop then refill while topping up the bucket without disturbing the soil, seems to be working well :)

Thanks, have had a bit of a think and decided to cancel my new tank. Doing more research, I think with my future plans, I'd only end up replacing it in a year or two. Increasing my outlay massively, overall.

I've settled on getting myself a Red Sea Reefer 350 V3. So going to have save a bit more, or sell my 3080ti that hardly gets used. If I get it before we move, which could take a few years for a suitable place to come up, I'll run it as a tropical tank.

Been out the game for a couple of years now and looking to sell up if someone could help with a price check. Red sea reefer 250 in white with no sump was thinking about £400? Ecotech vectra m1 pump and an mp40w.

Before you pull the trigger on a Red Sea Reefer, take a look at the DD Reef Pro tanks.
