Your current Fish tank Setups!

need a bit of help guys. Moving house next week so it's an ideal time to clean out my current tank (Juwel Vision 180), whilst the guys are temp re-homed in a 110l tank. Once i've cleaned the vision though of all the god damn algae I was thinking of putting a Co2 solution in there to help with plant growth and hopefully inhibit algae growth as well. Not looking to spend a fortune here but what do people suggest as I have a basic understanding of it and have seen some home made solutions by people but was wondering what else there is out there that is recommended.

one ting though do i really need to change carbon every month

You need to change the carbon as often as recommended by the manufacturer or once it becomes saturated it can start to dump the nasties it holds back into the water. You don't need to buy expensive branded Fluval carbon, any decent activated carbon will do, use a filter sock and put it in the basket where the external instructions told you to put the carbon. Keep an eye on your pH, the carbon will remove the tannins the bogwood's leeching into the tank so your tufa rock will start to raise that, possibly higher than some of your fish like.

I did something similar, the CO2 fire extinguisher hooked upto a reg, solonoid and a bubble tub inside the tank. Worked a treat and really easy to put together. Not particularly cheap but lasts much longer than the cheap bottles you put together etc.

I would go with a TMC reg + solo they are about £70 new, very reliable. Then pick up a CO2 extinguisher from the bay and your away. Lots of guides on plantedtank forum.

If it's a vision 180 you can easily fit one into the cabinet + filter, no messier than that little thing.

The kit's good, but expensive. You could set up a FE kit for less, and it will last a hell of a lot longer.
You will also find that it will cost significantly more to fill that little bottle than a FE as well as more often (twice a month for a heavily planted tank) were as a FE will be every 2-3 months.

My big old male Sawbwa are starting to look a bit old and senile now though, think they must be coming to end of their lifespan. Will try and get another batch of fry before they all kick the bucket, but I've got 6 juvies waiting to replace them.

People of OCUK I need your help! I have a couple of fish tanks that I need rid of. One is a Fluval Edge and the other is a 60 liter Rena with a stand. How can i get rid of these in Bristol? Tried eBay and gumtree and no one was interested. I don't want to just bin them. Anyone got any ideas what i can do with them?

Hi,

I'm currently treating my daughters fantail for white spot using Tetra Goldmed which is a broadspectrum treatment (I went for it in case of any secondary infections). We're 4 days into the treatment, any idea how long it takes to clear up?

I used to keep goldfish years ago but was lucky enough to never have an outbreak of whitespot so I've no idea how long it takes.

I caught this really early though. At the first sign of whitespots on it's tail I got the meds.

Thanks in advance.

Had to put my dwarf gourami down last night, after suffering with dropsy for nearly three weeks. Feel a bit **** about it, not once did his behaviour change he just got bigger. :(

Tetra Goldmed contains Malachite Green which is excellent for treating whitespot.

The time it takes to clear up depends predominantly on water temperature, because the parasite Ich has a several stage life cycle.

When I have had outbreaks of white spot in the past, I have raised the water temperature gradually, added the treatment and then re-added the treatment again on day 4. The symptoms have always cleared within one to two weeks.
