AGP
- Old school onboard steam engine in AST family PC.
- VOODOO 1 with mechwarriar 2 :eek::eek::D
- ATI Radeon 7000, so powerful it created blackholes.
- 9800pro, died during ATITool overnight (my bad).
- X800XT, great workhorse for css, but cost me too much (£270).

PCI-E
- X1900XT, stunning card, plays crysis, and my main tf2 with ease.
- 8800GT (coming next week), with accelero will be a great £50 upgrade.

Also just bought, Warhead, Stalker, mass effect, bio shock, so have lots to keep me going.

Well the first PC I bought in 1999 was from Tiny and came with a Pentium 3 450mhz and a Riva TNT2. since then it's been home build machines.

nVidia TNT2
nVidia GeForce2 MX (Hercules)
nVidia GeForce Ti 4200 (PNY)
ATI 9800PRO (Sapphire)
ATI 1950PRO (Sapphire)

So, not gone too bad over the years and the biggest improvement was when i got the 9800pro. Holding out as long as possible before the 1950pro goes.

I do remember the original Unreal running on the GF 256 DDR with great fondness - first time I'd seen HW accelerated lighting effects, marvellous...

Wierd, I was thinking about this the other day after recently just finishing a build, didnt know there was a thread until now.

Anyway my journey with gpu's began about 11 years ago when my dad bought me my first PC, it was just for me and setup in my room. So awesome i thought...and it was. I played a few games and didnt realise it had a 3D accelarator (wow) until i was messing about with the display settings in Jedi Knight. I thought it was so cool everything looked all smoothed out. Well that was it, after more poking round i discovered it was an ATI 3D Rage Pro 4MB. Right after that i spent my pocket money on a load of games that would only run with a 3D card, i remember Turok being one of them. ACE.

Time rolls by and at this time im more into grips with Windows 98 and how to reinstall the OS and swap out hardware. I remember Kingpin was due out during the summer (summer '99) but my graphics card couldnt play it very well at all. I was gutted when playing the demo and just knew it was time for an upgrade. So with 120 great british pounds in my skyrocket i went off down into town and bought myself a 3dfx Voodoo 3000 16MB. It wasnt too fantastic or anything but did the job for almost a year.

Once my first PC could no longer play games at playable framerates I got another off my parents for Christmas that came with an Nvidia Riva TNT 2 32MB and kept that for a couple of years but it didnt really cut much mustard as the system was a mid range spec so i bought yet another one a few years later with my own hard earned cash, this time it came bundled with a GeForce4 MX400, which was an absolute pile of pants (i didnt do much research into that one, d'oh!) and so soon upgraded to the ATI Radeon 9700 Pro. I loved this card and got more life out of it than any other to date.

Now onto a bit more modern stuff. I finally jumped onto the DIY bandwagon and built my next PC which had an ATI Radeon x850 Pro. It didnt last long though as it began to struggle pretty badly so i ended up swapping it out for an Nvidia 8800GT (one of the first models). I eventually donated that build to my dad when i built my recent rig this year that is equipped with an ATI Radeon HD3870 x2.

What a great thread :) I upgrade slowly, but got my first PC about 13 years ago (after my Amiga...) so there should be some history here :)

Cirrus Logic 4Mb graphics card, could do VGA and everything! (1995)
Diamond Monster 3D Voodoo 2 (not sure, 1997?)
Geforce 256 (1999)
Geforce 2 (2000)
Gainward Geforce 4600Ti "Golden Sample" (2002)
Geforce 6800 AGP (2005, now in my girlfriend's machine til she gets a PCI-E board)
BFG 8800GT OC2 (2007, first PCI-E card)
and the change to ATi, arrived this afternoon - Gainward 4870 Golden Sample, running at 780/1090Mhz :)
