Your graphics card history tree?

My first pc card was a Diamond Edge 3D that used nvidias first gpu...i've always felt i should email nvidia and ask for a refund as compensation...the card cost £400 and never ever got 'final' drivers.

As far as I can remember:

Rage II (or something - on board graphics)
3DFX Voodoo3 3000
GeForce4 MX440 64MB
ATI Radeon 9600Pro 128MB
ATI Radeon x800 XL 256MB (Current Card)

voodoo 2 - geforce ti4600 - ati x1950xt - nvidia 8800GTX (the best) - ati x1950pro - undecided (most likely gtx 280)

SIS onboard Graphics
Geforce 5200
Geforce 6600 128mb
ATI X1800XT
Geforce 8800GTS 320mb
ATI HD3200 Onboard
ATI 4870 512MB

ati 7500 128mb (
ati 9200se 128mb(replaced within 1 hour cos it was worse than the 7500 lol )
ati 9600xt 128mb
ati 9800pro 128mb
ati x800xt 256mb
ati x1950pro 256mb
ati hd3870 512mb
ati 4850 512mb (tried crossifre for a bit on these)

hard to remember going through so many cards :o

Geforce 256
Geforce 3 TI200
Geforce 4 TI4400
Radeon 9800PRO
Geforce 8600GT

That's it so far, i've never really gone out of my way to spend a lot of money on graphics cards. I have a couple of other hobbies that take priority over computer games, one of these is making music where i tend to spend 90% of my surplus cash :)

I will upgrade soon before Fallout 3, but the 8600GT has worked suprisingly well up until now, i play all my games at 1280x720 though which helps. Not sure what i am going to get next, probably another Nvidia card because even though the 9800PRO was probably one of the best graphics card ever imo (considering when it was released) i have never liked the ATI drivers/CCC.

memory a little fuzzy but here they are.

3dfx voodoo 3
geforce 2
Geforce Ti4200
Ati 9800 A.I.W pro (one of the best purchases)
Ati X850xt PE
Geforce 7600 gt( very handy)
Geforce 8800GTX (currently using)

7800GT

Still think the Radeon 9700Pro was the best, such an amazing improvement over the Geforce 4...

First PC way back in 1992 with Cirus Logic 1mb. it could do 16m colours @ 640x480. Photo realistic images on a computer back then was amazing.

Then came my biggest mistake, Matrox Millenium 4mb at a whopping £400 not because of performance, as it was the fastest Windows Accelerator on the market. The mistake was the timing, just after I bought it the price dropped to £130 iirc. I swore then never to pay more than £200 for gfx.

A Permedia 2 card.

Hercules' 3D Prophet 4500 (ST Micro's Kyro II)- Tile-Based Rendering - Damn good card for the money with Environmental Bump Mapping, looked a lot better than most other cards at the time. Alas there was no hardware T&L which eventualy killed this card and Tile Based rendering (Although iirc they eventualy got Hardware T&L into Tile Based Rendering)

Current card - TYAN Tachyon G9600 PRO 128MB (ATI RADEON 9600 PRO) - AGP. Another Brilliant Card which has stood the test of time well albiet with all settings set to low, Still, its seen me through City of Heroes/Villains, WoW and now struggling in Warhammer Online. It even surprises me now @ 1680x1050

Even though I bought my first PC Back in 1992 these are the only cards I have ever had. I made then last as long as possible.

Just placed an order here for a 4850 together with a complete new system. Aiming for it to last another 5 years+ if I can get away with it.

AMD Phenom X4 Quad Core 9950 2.60GHz Black Edition.
MSI K9A2 Platinum AMD 790FX (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard.
OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Reaper HPC Enhanced Bandwidth Edition Dual Channel DDR2 (OCZ2RPR800C44GK).
Asus ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express).
