Your graphics card history tree?

Some crappy ATI Rage PCI card
Geforce2 MX
Geforce4 Ti4200
Geforce FX 5700
Geforce 6600GT 128MB AGP
Geforce4 Ti4200 (6600GT died while playing the F.E.A.R. demo, luckily it was only two months before a planned massive upgrade ;). Got the 6600GT RMA'd, then sold the new one on eBay to pay for...)
Geforce 7800 GTX 256MB

I was planning to get an 8800 GT in the new year, but Her Majesty has deemed it necessary to ship me off to the Falklands for four months so that's off the cards (no pun intended!) for the time being :(.

The Ti4200 lives on in the secondary PC I have at my parent's house for when I visit on the odd weekends :p.

S3 onboard (on an AST P166!)
S3 onboard with upgraded memory
above plus Voodoo 1
Riva 128 + Voodoo 2
Riva 128 + 2 Voodoo 2
Creative Graphics Blaster (can't remember chipset) + 1 Voodoo 2
Voodoo 3 3000
GeForce 2 GTS
Voodoo 5 5500
GeForce 3
Radeon X800Pro
Radeon X800XT
GeForce 7800GT
Radeon X1900XT
Radeon HD3870

Timeline and cards between Voodoo 3 and the X800Pro are a little hazy and I think there's a missing card in that period, but the list's essentially correct from memory!

Matrox G200 8Mb
Geforce 2MX 32Mb
Geforce 4 Ti4200 128Mb
Radeon 9800Pro 128Mb
Geforce 6800LE 128Mb (The best card ever, fully unlocked and overclocked)
Radeon X850Xt 256Mb (had this for ages now, I seem to have lost interest in games a bit :()

onboard something that only did 16 colours (386)
add on card that did 256 colours (so i could play sim city 2000 on said 386)

big gap with no pc

leadtek nvidia fx 5xxx series (completely encased in aluminium)
6800
7800gtx
7950gx2
1x 8800gtx
2x 8800gtx SLI
1x 8800gtx

sold one of my 8800's for full price because the gains weren't worth the price

pre-PC)

Acorn Atom - 6kB GFX mem!
BBC model B - 20kB GFX mem at highest res!

PC-ISA)

Some VGA card - possibly trident. Think this was only VGA - i.e. 16 colours only - but didn't matter as I only had a B&W monitor at that time

Diamond Stealth 24 - 256 colours now + bought 14" colour monitor!

Cirrus card with 1MB RAM ... card came with 512kB + bougt additional RAM chip to push into extra socket on card

PC-PCI)

S3 Virge (?) ... think this was the S2 3d "decellerator" though didn't know that at the time

Diamond Monster 3D Voodoo 1 - add-on 3D gfx card ... S3 card still did 2D via VGA pass thru cable but on 3D games voodoo 1 took over

PC-AGP)

3dfx Voodoo3 2000

Inno Geforce3 Ti200

Leadtek Geforce 6800LE - overclocked and all but one extra units unlocked

PC-PCIe)

... next step pending ... will see how prices settle in January!

First card i had was a gf2 mx series then from there it was gf4 mx, 9800 non pro probably the best card i ever had. Loved it cause mine came with the decent memory that the pro had so got to pro speeds no problem and the core could also go well past that of a pro also. After that i got a x1900xtx and then finally onto my HD3870xt which i still have in my pc atm.

emm of topic you should fix your signature as its 3870xt bot 3780xt :p

ATI Mach 64
Nvidia Riva TNT2
Nvidia Geforce 256
ATI Radeon 8500?
Nvidia Geforce TI4600
Nvidia Geforce TI4200 (won it and sold it)
Nvidia Geforce 6600GT
Nvidia Geforce 7950GT
Nvidia Geforce 8800GT (ordered!)

I've had so many I can't remember (must be 20+ ):o ,You do however remember your first & that was a monster 4mb Righteous Orchid 3DFx linked to a 2mb ATI something or other, Ooo how we drooled at Quake running in Glide:D

Must have been intoxicated by your drool as to my knowledge, Quake has never supported glide :) 3dfx did use a minigl driver to effectively port GLQuake into glide calls but it was still an OpenGL game.

Interesting to see that most people have a fairly stereotyped/pigeon hole upgrade cycle:

-Some upgrade infrequently, maybe every 2-3 generations and very rarely make unforced 'sideways' moves
-Some upgrade steadily nearly every generation
-Some are constantly chopping and changing, making sideways and sometimes even backwards moved. I imagine most of these people are wheeler-dealers in the secondhand market.

I probably fall into the middle bracket now although it used to be every 2 generations:

-Cirrus Logic 5446 2meg
-Guillemot Maxi Gamer Voodoo Graphics 4meg
-3dfx Voodoo3 2000 AGP 16meg
-Hercules Prophet Geforce 2 MX 32meg (faster ram than reference)
-3dfx Voodoo3 3000 PCI 16meg (ran alongside the above for dual monitor support)
-Abit Siluro Geforce 4 Ti4200 64meg (faster memory than 128meg version)
-Hercules Radeon 9800SE AIW (softmodded to Pro)
-XFX Geforce 6800 AGP 128meg (softmodded to 6vp)
-Leadtek Geforce 6800GT PCI-E 256meg (still in my backup rig)
-MSI Geforce 7900GTO 512meg
-BFG 8800GTS OC 320meg

To be frank I don't think I've been blown away by anything since the first two 3dfx cards.

Cirrus logic 512k
Cirrus logic 1mb
tseng labs 1mb
cirrus logic 2mb (upgraded myself :) )
S3 Trio 2mb
s3 virge 4mb
S3 virge + maxi 3d gamer 4mb (what a difference!! GL QUAKE!! )
Riva TNT2 32mb
Geforce 2 mx 32mb
Geforce 4mx 440 64mb
Geforce 4 Ti4400 128mb
Radeon 9600XT 128mb
radeon 9800XT 128mb <-- best card i ever had
6800NU 128mb <--- crap.

Geforce 256 - came with AvP, it was superb

XM400 - geforce broke, was a cheap replacement. My dad binned the geforce before we realised it was under warranty. I cried.

9800pro - Simply wow, clocked it up to an XT, everything flew. Was a good christmas.

X800pro - Modded it to an XTPE, again amazing. Nothing could touch it at the time with my AMD64.

2900pro - Flashed to an XT. Recently went to the spec in sig, loving it. Not as good as the Geforce cards, but it runs everything really well.

Hi

mine was:

TNT 2 M64 (blew up took the agp slot with it)
SIS 6326 (what a downgrade :( )
Riva TNT (in a draw someware)
geforce 2 MX 200(64meg ram, gave to my sister)
geforce 4 MX 440 SE(in same draw)
9600 np (killed)
9800pro (flashed to XT, beast of a card still going strong in my mum's computer)
7800gs (bro's using)
8800GTS 640 (currant)

But I also had
Some really old 512k trident card
s3 virge (dunno what hapend to it )
geforce 256 (SDR version,in same draw but the fan is dieing on it)
voodoo 2 (in same draw)
ATI rage 64 (Think I still have it someware)

Wish I have had the 256 sooner as it was faster then the geforce 2 mx in 3dmark01 by about 1000 points, it also took me ages to track down the vodoo 2 as i wanted to see what the fuss was about found it at a carboot in the end for a quid lol
