I guess its due to lots of training and then the responsibilty of so many lives, if you pass out or whatever for even seconds you will lose the 'picture' that could take you 5 mins to get back up to speed and fully aware of the movements within the airspace. Mine was a heart issue on the ECG just after the guy had said 'impressive, havent seen that in a few years' to my lung test. They weren't able to grant me a CAA licence on the grounds it was a new one but with restrictions already and the problem i have isnt fully understood yet so had to play it safe. :(

Happy: Yep, love it, except when I'm 8000miles away from home and on night shifts as I am now!

Aim: Get back and start new post as an instructor - cant wait, get a chance to settle for 2 years and buy a house!

Money: Its good enough for me, could earn a shed load more in the civvy sector

What's your job?

I'm a copper. Joined the job in January, just had my final exams this week passed and am still at training school till next friday when we have our 'Passing Out' parade.

Are you happy with your job?

I haven't experienced it yet so it's difficult to sy. My experiences of training school have been great, everything i've heard from experienced plod sounds great and the thought of how exciting and varied my dayscan be looks great so i imagine i'll love it.
Got my first 'Live Patrol' on tuesday, i'll be babysat by someone who actually knows what their doing so it's not too scary but at the end of the day i'm a uniformed cop on the street on tuesday and potentially anything could happen so i'm both excited and scared :D

How much do you earn? (Personal)

Not that personal for me cos you can look up my wages on the internet!! After all deductions including 11% pension (which is a great scheme btw!!!) i take home £1640 a month, hopefully overtime will bump it a bit and i'm currently looking at other things i can do outside of work to get some of my debts cleared :)

Nothing but respect from me. My brother is a Met Copper. A sometimes horrible yet rewarding job that I'd never want so those willing to put up with everything that comes with the title deserve a medal imo.
 
Job description HGV (LGV) Class1 Driver (C+E)

Hours Crap, usually start @ 4AM and rarely do less than 65hrs per week.

Earnings, circa £29k plus expenses.

Great job apart from idiots in Mondeo's & Vectras.

Love it, most days are different; over the last 2 weeks I've dealt with a rape victim, had to help marine support unit get a body out of the river and then search it, dealt with an arson which took out most of a block of flats, nick a few people, take a child in police protective custody, on top of the usual day to day stuff. Although some days it makes you feel like a Millwall fan, everyone hates us but we don't care ;)

How much do you earn?

£29k + O/T which depends on how much you can rip into the budget and if there is any budget! Only got just over £2k last year, hoping o make it a bit more this year as I'm in the process of buying my first place.

Which force? I was down at the Met Police one a few days ago. Walked into the wrong canteen (I was a visitor ) and looked a right pratt when trying to get some food when the only people in there were about 300 odd cadets :o

Has an almost uni-campus-esqe feel to the place.

Enjoy it mate, can't think of a thing I'd rather be doing than this as a job except maybe some kind of ridiculously overpaid movie reviewer based in Las Vegas. Heading over to Hendon for a 2 day course next week so thought I'd say hello but I forgot they have the seperate training colleges. Only left Hendon in Jan last year myself, and the first year flies by.

Most of the time. I spend a lot of time building solutions other people have specc'd which annoys me. I'd much rather be designing the solution.

How much do you earn?

A reasonable amount for a 21 year old. Should shoot up over the next few years (Especially when I get my CCIE).

"Product Specialist, Business Development"

I support the technical aspects of business development throughout the globe. From direct customer engagement through solution architecting in bid teams (up 32 people, ukp150M) to presales training.

Having said that I'm currently building my first business case for a new opportunity too... that involves everything from market analysis through to making a cash flow. It'll be an interesting experience.

I travel - with february seeing a london, dubai, bahrain, manila and hong kong in one week. Closely followed by Casablanca.. meeting and experiencing new cultures is the interesting bit :).

No for a variety of reasons. On return from a good holiday, I'm now actively persuing opportunities elsewhere.

Civil Servant for Cardiff and Vale NHS, working in payroll.

Just started, but it's quite busy with tough deadlines as we convert the payroll system.
Really not too fussed on it though and i'm still looking for other work.

Pay is a little over £14k, which is ok i guess.

I'm 20 and started working when i left college with some a-levels, wish i had taken an apprenticship somewhere instead of office work.

Is it too late to look for apprenticships in an computer or electronics field? I'm filling out an application for BT as a newtork service administrator at the moment. It seems like there would be more room for advancement and better money elsewhere, as the civil service really sucks in regards to this.
 
It looks like that Nano guy will not be posting for a while. Reminds me off that other guy who posted a pic of his 'girlfriend', that was awesome.
 
Currently a general IT egghead for a large online retailer - I'm officially a network admin but most of my time is spent designing spam emails and a host of other banal crap that a monkey could do.

I'm not happy with the job at all. I'm sick of staring at a monitor all day, even if it is only 18 hours a week. The company offered me a derisory full time package, which I refused, this prompted me to decide to leave IT behind and retrain as a Health physics monitor.

The pay is OK, enough to survive on part time hours but it will increase considerably in my new career. Sorry to be vague but I find money talk rather vulgar.
 
Semior Staff Nurse in Theatre recovery working with kids from 14hours old and adults upto 106(my oldest and youngest so far)


I recover people post orthopaedic/general/ENT/MaxFax/Paediactric sugeries tis a rewarding job but can go horrible wrong at times. It is however in the NHS and i new what i was getting into before i started so i cant complain

European Infrastructure Manager

I am happy, although, as with other people, the travelling gets me down. I am averaging 2-3 weeks a month somewhere in Europe at the moment which is a strain on any personal life I wish to possess.
This field of work was what I originally strived for when I was younger, but I can't see myself doing this, or anything within IT, in 5 years time.
I want to own and manage my own bar eventually, preferably abroad.

I earn a good amount of money, although deservedly so considering the time I spend out of the country.
 
Start work tomorrow as a NOC Engineer (NOC= Network Operations Centre), working for a major ISP up in London.

I'm praying that it'll turn out to be a good'un. I've been wanting to shift to a much more network focussed role, rather than general support / sys admin duties, but have no prior experience (have got a CCNA under my belt though.)
