Your job

What's your job?

Technology Consultant for major IT firm. Work with many of the big banks, law and retail firms.

Are you happy with your job, is it temporary, what job/career do you aim for?

Yes, already at the top of the chain regarding employers (I feel), as much training as I can get, get sent of to vegas every year, **** up's, expense everything, etc.

How much do you earn? (Personal)

Not as much as I should do and can do but for my age i'm laughing.

Job - Civil Servant

Happy - Hmm, it's a job, i get flexitime, doesn't make me happy though. Technically just temporary till I find something better....... I know for a fact that doing my job makes most people in this thread unhappy.....

How much - Not enough. Going up a bit soon due to the merger of two departments and the merging of two different payscales to create one common payscale.

I work for a little known company called International Business Machines as a PUE.

I'm really happy with it, especially the project I'm working on at the moment.

How much do i get paid? Enough, not as much as i'd like, but not bad for a gap year placement.

Job - Student

Happy - Not much.

Aim - To get good grades!

Earning - Might get a part time job soon

What's your job - IT Consultant (proper one, none of that fake-ness!). I go and help customers with their IT decisions.

Are you happy with your job - No way, not in a million years. I hate being in an office all day. I hate IT. I'd prefer to shovel poo all day in a field then do this.

What job/career do you aim for - To fly. Currently getting my first licence.

How much do you earn - Enough. At least 80-90% of my pay goes towards flying.

I end up working in Paris a lot nowadays, which is bad. I don't wish to insult the whole French nation, but every single person I've worked with has been slow and lazy. (Sorry Bill!)

What's your job?

Trainee Frozen Food Manager - Sainsburys

Are you happy with your job, is it temporary, what job/career do you aim for?

Very happy, permanent. Would like to move to upper management in time

How much do you earn? (Personal)

Not enough :(

I'm a student, and work part time as a cashier in a recently refurbished, and quite plush, Ladbrokes store. It's an easy, steady job, that doesn't tire you out like manual labour. The store is a ten minute walk from my residence, so no travel expenses. Punters are all local, and friendly. £5.45/hr, double time Sundays.

Job - College

Happy - Yeh I was until exams came. As soon as they go in June i'll be happier.

Aim - Get my A Levels, get my CCNA, get experience, and work for Google :p

Earning - 30 quid EMA/week + bonuses..."just" enough for my week :(

Systems Analysis in my own place, love it, but its hard work. On 160k before tax, about £8000 a month after, as im in the highest tax bracket, which is about 40%!
If you are bright enough to be earning that amount of cash at your age I would expect you to be bright enough not to be paying 40% tax. ;)

Job - IT Support

Happy - Was a while ago, but want more now

Aim - Short Term, got CCNA exam and 3 MCSE exams coming up, just passed driving test and MCSA so hopefully should be able to get a good pay rise, or find another job.

Earning - £7.20 an hour :( (up from £6.15 last year)

I got suspended from work for letting my mate use my discount card, I attended a hearing the following day and was sacked. Hadnt had any other warnings or anything, was really shocked as i thought it was quite a petty thing, but it was infact gross misconduct. Not trying to scare you, but be prepared to put up a little fight, companies are star it out completely please - Davey.

So you work for your self earning 100k + but you worked for someone before, i am guessing by the above post it was a retail store since you talk about a discount card. And since your only 19 i cant see you getting from that to 100k that fast.

He's clearly talking out of his posterior in this thread....

Anyway me:

I work in IT consultancy for mobile telecommunication networks & ISPs all over the globe. I'm what a lot of people would call a 'fake' consultant as I'm a recent graduate...

I am very happy in my job at the moment as there are loads of perks (Expense everything when away, free mobile phone contract from the company, lots of other freebies) I can also undergo any further study I choose and my company will pay for it all (provided they deem it appropriate to my role and I pass :)) I also work from home at times which is a great plus!

How much do I earn? Well I have just managed to buy a very nice first house on my current salary, and my basic should be something beginning with 5 + 25% annual bonus in 3 years. :)

Damn you. Sounds nice compared to myself, also a 'recent graduate' into IT (support not consultancy :( ). You work for one of the bigger boys I take it? Want to give me a job? :D

They are hiring actually. I think you need to have a first class hons degree in a relevant subject though and every recent grad who works there that I know of did a placement. If you fulfill this criteria, give me a shout on MSN ;)

Job : None, but Uni, just passed my first year of Computer Studies, but im sick to death of computers so im taking my HCE and swapping to International Business Studies + Japanese.

Temporary? Next 4 years, then hopefully JET or something to build some money up.

Happy? Not at the moment, got Camp America (through CCUSA) to look forward to this summer and travelling afterwards, and im feeling optimistic about my new degree choice.

Aims.. Not really thought about it, not being stuck in an office if I can wrangle it.. and Id prefer nice hours/places to 40k (I say that now)

I'm a service engineer apparently.

I service and repair vending and amusement parts, typically coin validators and not acceptors.

It's ok, its my dads company, and I know everyone there, so its pretty laid back. I'm learning more and more, so I can do more of the interesting stuff, but there's still a lot of crap jobs I have to do, mostly stripping, cleaning and rebuilding stuff when it comes in. Doing more and more programming though, which is better.

The pay is crap, not much over minimum wage, and I only work three days, so my pay cheque isn't huge, but its enough to keep me going and buying the stuff I want. Best thing is its enabled me to finally go out and buy this which is really giving me loads of pleasure atm, so its worth it.

I intend to do this for a few years, then join the Police. Hopefully become a traffic cop.

Doh no first class degree here :(

Out of curiosity if you don't mind asking, whats the company? I'd hazard a guess as Accenture?

No, Openwave Systems. Switch your mobile phone on or open your Internet browser and you'll probably see our logo on your screen :) (unless you own a Nokia)
