Your Morning Routine

I drink coffee for the taste, not really for any boost.

A good decaf is calling you.

*makes coffee to read thread*

Although 4pm is probably the latest I'd have a coffee these days

Yep! By 9pm you'll still have 50% of that caffeine circulating your blood, and still 25% during the early hours. You may be able to fall asleep easily (I used to) but you'll be missing that deep sleep. This was key for me as someone who exercises a lot, that's where the recovery happens.

Caffeine I'm pretty sure is ok in moderation. I drink several cups of tea per day, which isn't so bad as they only contain half the amount of caffeine compared to coffee.

I've gone without for several days and don't feel much different.

I drink decaff in the evening, and normal up until lunch.

I have also been a clubber for 22 years, so thinking of caffeine as a drug is lolworthy to me. (yes yes, I know it technically is)

It certainly has some of the key markers of a good drug though. Gives you a buzz, makes you feel great, boost in alertness and energy. If you do 1g you'll likely end up in hospital :p

I think if you treat coffee like alcohol then it could be good - occasionally drinking it when you want to get buzzing and be hyper focused. But like alcohol, you don't want to be smashing it every morning so you don't feel so tired and to get you through the day.

What’s breakfast? Can’t remember the last time I had time to eat before work

Get up earlier then :p

I can't function without breakfast, feel horrible without it.
I don't do the full cold shower thing but at the end of my normal shower I will have a blast of cold just to wake me up, does wonders.

If you mean by smashing it that >2 normal size and strength coffees is probably unwise over a prolonged period then fair enough. However if you have 1-2 normal coffees a day and no other caffeine then I see no harm in it (in fact some studies have shown it can guard against dementia).

:D

It’s taken me so many times to quit caffeine, but I’m there now. Stick at it, may take some time for your body to adjust. Humans are very capable of functioning really well without stimulates wrecking things.

There’s a big difference between those with and those without kids from what I’ve read. No surprises there I guess.

routine varies according to meetings. If no meetings, Out of bed round 9, cook myself breakfast, shower etc, with goal to start work at 10.

I'm thinking of switching things up to:

06:00 Alarm
06:05 Get up
06:10 Breakfast
06:20 - 08:00 Work on business plan
08:00-12:00 Day job
12:00-14:00 Runch
14:00-17:00 Day job
17:00-18:00 Tea/Netflix
18:00-20:00 Business planning
20:00-23:00 Netflix/Bumble/Tinder

And repeat Monday-Friday until out of lockdown.

Been trying a slightly less harsh version of the cold shower...open all the windows before getting in the shower so when you get out you get a little zing from the cold air!
Maybe even why it’s called a Scottish shower in the first place??

6.30 Alarm
6.35 Crossword with coffee
6.45 Shower
6.55 Brush teeth
7.00 Groom beard
7.15 Prepare bag with lunch and snacks
7.30 Walk to work

Wake up at ~7:30am or whenever my son decides he wants to wake up.
Collect my son from his bed and put the TV on so I can get another 30 mins rest.
Get up at 8am. Void myself.
Make breakfast for children. Drink a double espresso.
Hand children over to wife.
Shower, change.
Sit in front of my computer by 9am.

6:30 get up and dressed etc.
7:30 take small child to school
8:00 get coffee, do immediate email checks and catch up on all platforms
12:00 try and jump on the bike (although this week it's been evenings due to work) in the basement
18:00 finish day job
18:30 Make Kids dinner
19:00 Workout for 30min
19:30 make dinner for us
20:00 clean up, have shower
20:30 start work on side business stuff
00:30 bed

Repeat.

Get up early in the morning, if my face is a little puffy, I'll put on an ice pack while doing my stomach crunches. I can do a thousand now.

After I remove the ice pack, I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower, I use a water activated gel cleanser. Then a honey almond body scrub. And on the face, an exfoliating gel scrub. Then apply an herb mint facial mask, which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an aftershave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion.
