Your motoring irritations

I can make exception for lack of confidence on the roads, but carelessness is inexcusable you're in control of a ton and a half of metal, pay attention.

But what really makes my blood boil and urine evaporate from my wee man is self importance. From people cutting into queues because they're too important or late to wait or those who slow down on outside lanes of motorways because they're being tail gated.

It's like this on my dads road, everyone parks on the street, leaves their drives clear, and refuses to budge so when I pop round I have to then park on the next street, pain in the arse when i have a boot load of stuff to take in.

People are just odd

Our road is very narrow, so you can only park on one side. Some houses have a drive way and we completed ours a few months ago. I put all three of my cars on my driveway.

Occassionally you get an idiot who blocks my driveway to the extent that i cant get onto it without having to manourvre the car on there, as the road is so narrow.

so i therefore have to park my car on the road, taking up one of "their" spaces, because they are so stupid

if i can get my cars on the drive, you have more spaces... is that so hard to figure out?

Other drivers (cough....taxis) who signal right to pull in front of you from a stop at the side of the road, and just move off slowly expecting me to brake for them. When I don't, they continue, forcing me to change lanes to overtake them.

Oh, and cyclists. Suicidal freeloaders with a chip on their shoulder whose safety is apparently my responsibility.

The idiots who drive slower than me, and the lunatics who drive faster than me.

Little people craning their necks to see over the dashboard. I'm sure that can't be safe.

Being flashed 'thank you' when I'm giving way at a give way line, I mean you're welcome but I kind of was supposed to stop anyway.

People still paying PPCs for pretend fines, I mean doesn't everyone know by now?

You sound a little self-righteous.....

Have to say, since moving to the US, my road-rage has increased ten-fold :p

Tailgaters. If you drive 2 inches from my bumper I'm just going to go slower and slower, OK?

People who don't indicate until they start to actually turn. WTF is the point? The indicator is there to let other people know what you're doing....not to somehow propel your car into the turn!

Fog lights. For some reason, everybody where I live is using them this year. I don't know why it started all of a sudden. It's often the same people who tailgate as well.

Crosswalks over here are scary. Especially the city where I live. Basically, nobody will stop for peds at a crosswalk. They've even started putting buckets of red flags at either side - you're supposed to pick one up, wave it to show you're crossing, then deposit it into the bucket the other side. Doesn't work. What makes it REALLY dangerous is that if somebody does actually stop, the person behind them (if it's 2 lanes) often doesn't. I've seen so many near misses.....their life flashes before my eyes! The police often have "enforcement days" around here - they have a plain-clothes cop try and cross, and then pull everybody who doesn't stop for him. It's hilarious - it's almost every car.....they would need their entire fleet to actually get everybody!

People who speed up as you are overtaking them. It's so dangerous and all because they have small willy syndrome and can't handle being overtaken, or their pure arrogance that they think they have the right to control traffic speed.

People who park in Keep Clear boxes and block the exit/entrance to a turning.

I've just made my way across one and was on the edge then someone (woman in a Cashcow ) stops behind me blocking this junction. A nice queue of cars formed waiting for her to move...

Also Enfield council are bright sparks..

They've installed 'Give way to oncoming traffic points' here, right on the bend

Also people who pull out in front of you to overtake and then don't! They just sit there for 5 minutes and eventually bugger off back into their previous lane.

more horse powers would help there

So many things....

1. HGV drivers in roadworks with a 50MPH limit who still want to do 56MPH down the middle lane trying to bully whatever car is trying to do 50MPH in front of them.
2. HGV drivers who ignore the overtaking restrictions on the A14.
3. HGV drivers who pull out to overtake without looking in their mirrors.
4. HGV drivers who decide to do a 5 mile overtake causing chaos behind them.
5. White van drivers who do not realise they have a 60MPH speed limit on a dual carriageway with the national speed limit.
6. Badly aligned lights especially on SUV's and 4X4'S
7. People who use fog lights when visibility is down 500 metres or more
8. Ninja Drivers who don't believe in lights in poor visibility. That includes HGV's with dodgy trailer lights.
9. People who jump red lights.
10. People who at a major junction do not move into the middle lane when the road conditions allow it.
11. In standing traffic at junctions, especially on motorways, the people who do not leave any space in the nearside lane for you to join.
12. People who drive too close to the car in front making it dangerous for them and also impossible for you to overtake if the road conditions allow.

Middle lane hogs.
People who don't indicate at roundabouts.
Faffers ("Oh, Im' turning into this junction; let me slow down to a crawl on the main carriageway before doing so!" and "A motorway! I'll just dawdle up this sliproad then try and join the traffic stream at 35mph")

Not sure I understand sidelight hate. But then I've always thought that it's best to use headlights only when necessary. I use mine regularly in dim conditions to help me be seen, and switch to headlights only when I'm having trouble seeing myself. Then again, my car is parked at home in a compound so when I get in the car the first thing I do is switch the sidelights on so I can see the instruments.

Yes, front sidelights are usually quite dim, but they are better than none at all, and they illuminate your tail lights just as brightly as when your headlights are on as well.

Had this happen a few times to me on the M4 today:

Driving happily at 70 on cruise control in the "slow lane". Someone comes up in the middle lane (as they rightly should be) however they over take me enough that if I were to be behind them I'd be touching their bumper. Anyway, I hate people sitting in that position, however the worst part comes when they drop their speed and then I have to pass them on the left because damned if I'm going to slow down, get behind them and then into the fast lane just to overtake them.

People who crawl through traffic lights when a little extra speed would easily allow another car or two behind to get through.

On that note, people who keep creeping forward when the light is red. Just bloody stop, you can press the accelerator again in a few moments when it changes.

People who take driving too seriously, follow all of the rules to the letter, and then try to be a vigilante policeman when they see anybody else doing something dubious.

That thread regarding the BT worker on his phone a classic example . Get on with your lives.

My biggest complaint is the absolute lack of awareness 90% of motorists have for anything that isn't 1 micron from their front bumper (and in their lane for Motorways etc). That causes more accidents rather than speed in my not very scientific research! :D

Absolutely agreed, it is bloody annoying when people stop miles from the car in front and then slowly creep forward until they stop a normal distance front the car in front. If you stay put you end up looking like the pillock with the big gap in front of you.

Crawling away from lights after they turn green, usually combined with taking 15 seconds to realise it's green followed by faffing around with gears and handbrakes deserves nothing less than lethal injection. Hesitant and unobservant drivers in general make congestion problems much worse.
