Your next mobile phone - what are you planning to buy and why?

I bought an apple watch (just so I could check what it was like to have one) so will have to purchase an iPhone, had to return my business iPhone SE so waiting for iPhone 14 to come out. There are so many amazing and cheap Chinese mobiles right now which can be bought for around £150-200. The flagship Samsung and Apple phones are so expensive compared. I deeply do not want to spend so much on a mobile but I guess I will treat myself this time.

The charger port on my trusty Samsung Note 9 has died, can still charge wirelessly but cannot use Android Auto anymore so looks like I am on the hunt for a new phone.

Really not sure what to go for next, Pixel or Samsung? I see the new Pixel is out soon but not sure if I can hold out till then without Android Auto.

I'm waiting for the Pixel 7 launch to see if it's worth upgrading our Huawei Mate 20 Pro handsets. They've been good until recently with various glitches and issues occurring.

The next phone won't be Chinese - I wasn't happy when android were ditching Huawei so I don't want to be caught in that again.

Do Nokia or HTC offer any competitive flagships that would match the latest Samsung or Google offering? Are there other non-Chinese devices that can compete?

I almost sprung for the Pixel 6 Pro but there were so many bad experiences with it in other threads so I held off.

I've ruled out Apple and unlikely to go for Pixel 7 after the problems I've had with the Pixel 6 (which is why I'm switching after less than a year).

I'm really undecided TBH

Maybe try one of the wireless Android Auto devices, lets you use any phone wirelessly. However, keeping the phone charged could be an issue. You'll need a dock\cradle with wireless charging. Could get messy with all the additional wires :)

I still have a Fold2, I used to buy the latest phone (mainly Pixels prior to the fold) every year. I've not done that with the Fold because both the three and the four haven't fixed things I dislike about the two.

For me to change, I really need to see improvements in the width of the front screen, reduction in depth and/or a better folding mechanism.

The Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 looks pretty good, but never been a fan of Chinese brands.

Can't see myself upgrading from the Pixel 5 for years.

What do people possibly do on their phones that need all that power? I'll never understand.
For the most part, load Facebook, Twitter, Instgram etc a few milliseconds faster than last year's model at the expense of another £1000+ (looking at the iPhone people who pointlessly upgrade year after year :D )

I said the same when I got my Samsung S20+ but after 2.5 years my power socket is flaky and my battery is at 83% health. I hope it lasts out until the S23 and then I will upgrade. 3 years isn't too bad. Never every year though like I used to 7 or 8 years ago

Does anyone know when the minimum £150 trade in finishes with Samsung? I'm considering S23 but can't decide whether to get the plus or not.

Edit: it's 31st October, so time to decide. :)

I just upgrade when either the battery degrades to a noticeable level or I break the screen. People just like new/shiny tech, nothing wrong with that, but its ultimately a total waste of money. :)

I was looking at the Pixel but been seeing a lot of bad things coming out over the last couple of years around software issues. I'm considering the S22+/Ultra

Will only upgrade if my pixel breaks, or something ground breaking comes out (a week battery? - who knows can't think of anything I want)
