I think my overriding memory as a kid was this ship coming to the screen this really cool looking spaceship then suddenly it was getting shot at by this other ship and this other ship went on for ever and ever and ever. And that was how I lost myself to Star Wars: A New Hope and still have to this day. Pity all the subsequent stuff after Empire was **** though ...

The Matrix. Everything about it just blew my mind. The look, the style, the action, the premise/story. Awesome,

If they'd never released the second two I'd agree with you, but they tainted the memory of the first so much it was knocked off the podium and down into the fiery depths of movie hell.

I'd stay with the Wachowskis though and probably say Cloud Atlas is one of my all time favourites.

Starship troopers

Funny how a certain film just sits right sometimes. That and braveheart are always my choices. And after a recent rewatch of there will be blood, that's up there too

Blade runner - could drown in the atmosphere its so thick

This. I've owned every format of this film (VHS, DVD, HD-DVD & now Blu-ray) Soundtrack by Vangelis is epic. Story is quite close to the book its based on (in my opinion) The depiction by Ridley Scott of his idea of a dystopian futurisitc rain soaked Los Angeles was very impressive (to me at the time) considering the lack of CGI at the time it was made.

If I had to pick one I'd say shawshank redemption.

I'd give honourable mention to close runners up - pulp fiction, American history X, American beauty, se7en, casino, goodfellas and heat.

I know it will be controversial, but a couple of people have said the matrix and in my opinion, apart from an interesting concept I found it very very average.

I think you've missed the point if the film. Off course it would happen. You generally don't go to a police station and confess if you want to get away with it. It's his story to the cops.

This is actually really hard to explain, but in short, it's deceptive. The film backs up Keyser's original story by showing scenes and dialogue to the viewers of the film that Keyser wouldn't have told the police in his story.

This enhances the viewer's belief that we are viewing a flashback, not a fictional account of past events. As a result, I feel the twist is a half-cheat.

So yes, I do understand the point of the film, I just have a level of observation that makes it's purpose defective :p

I agree with Heavy Rain. Terrible game, but I think Usual Suspects is fair since it is framed as his confession to someone else, not his internal monologue.

I don't like the Usual Suspects because it has absolutely zero value as a film without the twist. It is the film equivalent of a magic trick. Once you know the trick, it is no longer interesting.

I agree.

Pulp Fiction

Pretty much perfect, bar the bit with the annoying French chick. I remember the first time I watched it and was just gobsmacked. Knew I had just watched a true classic.
