170-180bhp will still make it more lively than most diesel hacks, while keeping above 40mpg and being fun when roads and conditions allow. Plus the reliability.
So 180bhp is a simple and reliable ask from an old school L Series engine? Really?

I bought my passat because I get over 500 miles to £48 with a mixed driving style, and its still fun. Ive embarresed a lot of cars in races (when its safe, ie a30, a38 at night no one on road etc).
My mate matt who fox will probably know from southwest bmw forums as m_att bought his hellrot red m3 for under 3k and has had no problems with it.

)I can assure you that your quite wrong,Late night supposedly "quiet" roads are lethal for a number of reasons. I see it all the time, late night accidents, nobody else involved...... Think about it.(when its safe, ie a30, a38 at night no one on road etc).
