Your Premiership XI 2007

true but not for me as good as Drogba and when you take into the account his performances and attitude this season he slips a bit further behind.

For sure, I'd definitely say Drogba was probably the best forward in the Premiership last year - especially with his defensive capabilities as well.

I was expecting Berbatov to crop up more often in peoples list than Rooney though.

Rooney has scored quite a few goals already this season too, as well as last season. Berbatov has been fairly invisible so far this season.

There's more manyoo fans than Spurs fans.

Aye true, but as a United fan myself personally on the bases of last season I'd have put Berbatov in there.

Rooney started this year well but recently succumbed to injury and has been out a little while.

I'm sure its only a matter of time before Berbatov comes good again, lord knows Spurs need him to at the moment!

If your going on goals this season in the Premiership then it's Rooney 4 and Berbatov 2.

So on goals alone it's not like Berbatov hasn't done anything.

True, but I think Rooney's been awesome for us all year. And whilst I said premiership (4 goals), Rooney has scored another 3 goals in the champions league, and set up quite a few despite only playing 12 games. Also scored 2 in 2 for England.

I said in my opening post of the official United thread that Rooney would be vital for us this year (more so than anyone else), and I think it's been justified based on our performance when he isn't in the team. We have no real linkup between midfield and attack without him or Ronaldo since our CM's play quite deep. As for last season, Ronaldo rightly took the plaudits, but this took the shine off what was a cracking season for Rooney too.

GK - James

LB - Evra
CB - Vidic
CB - Terry
RB - Richards

FW - Ronaldo
FW - Fabregas
FW - J Cole

ST - Tevez
ST - Torres
ST - Rooney

4-3-3 for me too.

I whole heartedly agree that Rooney had a great season for us, and does look like he'll have another good one this season.

Your definitely right that without Rooney (and Ronaldo for that matter) we do lack something... and the team really isn't itself when either of them are missing.

That said, if you go over an entire season and not just the Premiership then I'd probably sneak Rooney in there. Berbatov probably just edges it from his performances last season on Premiership games alone.

We'll see how Rooney does tonight (if he does play) and in the next couple of games. If Berbatov continues to put average performances in and Rooney puts in good ones then I'll change my mind ;)

Yeah I find it quite hard to argue wth Gilly's picks.

Friedel, Hahnemann and James all had fantastic seasons last year and it probably split between the three as far as keepers go.

Morton Gamst Pedersen did very well last year as well, I'm not sure he'd make it in my starting 11 but he'd definately be in the first 16.

thats a lot closer than some of the very biased offerings

not really in my opinion, terry spent a large portion of last season injured and has been in and out a little, carvalho has been the standout for me in chelsea's defense. Richards blows hot and cold, his athletic ability is unquestioned but he's poor on positioning and reading of the game still. Shorey has always seemed just a 'good' player to me, nothing amazing. Friedel you could make a case for but there are others in there, lampard didn't have one of his greatest seasons last year berbatov you could make a case for but his attitude this season has seemed poor. Oh and vidic doesn't look as good when he doesn't have ferdinand alongside him. just my opinions of course.

I'm sure its only a matter of time before Berbatov comes good again, lord knows Spurs need him to at the moment!

As a Spurs fan, I'd put Keane in above Berbatov. Berbatov has done the spectacular but Keane is incredibly under-rated. Per minute on the pitch, Keane scored more goals than any other player in the Premiership last season and he's already scored 12 goals this season. He's looked up for every match this season, even when everyone around him hasn't.

As this is based on 2007 i can't put in the likes of Terry, Carvalho, Torres etc as they've either been injured for long spells on and off or have only just signed. Here's my team:

Reina

Finnan
Vidic
Carragher
Evra

Fabregas
Mascherano
Essien

Ronaldo
Drogba
Berbatov

Keeper's a personal preference, others have gone for James but despite the praise he's been getting he's still as unreliable as ever just goes unnoticed since he's out the spot light. With no Terry or Carvalho the 2 cb's pick themselves as do Evra and Finnan as there have been no other stand out fullbacks during that time (Richards has mainly been cb during this period). Fabregas and Essien have been the 2 stand out cm's for 2007 and as i couldn't think of a lm ive gone for a 4-3-3 with Mascherano as the other cm (been excellent since joining us, could have gone for Gerrard, Lampard etc but he'll give the side more balance). And again, as this is for 2007 then Drogba, Ronaldo and Berbatov pick themselves.

Interesting to see quite a few people going for the likes of Torres and Elano, who haven't been here all that long. Personally when looking at Calendar year, I'd want someone to be absolutley AMAZING to justify selection over players who have done well from January onwards.
