I take it you don't want to wear out the wide areas of the pitch!

I used to really rate Woodgate, but he seems to be really suffering at the minute.

Finnan is too slow and gets overpowered too much, Neville has been injured all year, Chimbonda has been shocking this season, I don't rate Sagna and unless I'm mistaken Eboue hasn't really played there much this season.

We Brown I won't even bother. There is no-one else really.
I wouldn't say he (Finnan) gets outpowered much at all really, he also delivers a fantastic final ball (something Richards doesn't). He might not be as quick, but he can still shift.

Neville is probably still the best in the league, but he has been injured (which I mentioned - but I was talking in regards to regular right-backs).

Chimbonda was good last season and not as good (but not that bad) this season, he's been let down by Spurs' dreadful CB's.

Sagna has been superb this season (and obviously he wasn't there last season - Eboue was). Eboue did the job okay, he's a bit too dirty for my likings, but still, he's a better RB than Richards.

For me personally, Richards is a CB. When at RB he's poor, his strongest moments come when he goes inside, but outwide he's like a fish out of water. As I said, his positioning is terrible, so as a RB he was caught out time and time and time again last season. This season when he's been playing well he's been at CB.

...I don't rate Sagna...
Why not?

I could understand the argument being that he's not been here long enough to get into an '07 calender year team, but to not rate him at all? He's been immense for Arsenal so far, quite possibly our best defender on current form.

James

Evra
Toure
Rio
Neville/Sagna

Arteta/Hleb
Fabregas
Essien
C.Ronaldo

Drogba
Rooney

Rooney had a good start to this season and was superb towards the end of last season. Essien has been easily better than Lampard or Gerrard. Fabregas has up there with Messi on this seasons form and last season he set up a hell of a lot of goals. Hleb has been sublime this season but Arteta has been very consistent this season and last. Rio has been the best CB for the year closely followed by Toure, Vidic is good but Rio is easily better imo.

I don't rate Sagna and unless I'm mistaken Eboue hasn't really played there much this season.

Eboue hasn't played much because Sagna has been brilliant for us this season and has replaced him as our RB, he is a strong gritty defender and unlike Eboue is very committed defender and gets is good in the air as well. On his day Eboue is sensational as RB but the guy's work ethic leaves a lot to be desired at times.

From what I remember seeing of the ManU - Fulham game on Monday, Rio looked shakey as hell at moments. I vaguely remember him playing a poor backpass at one point that nearly gifted Fulham a chance.

Rio most certainly isn't "easily better". You'll find most Man Utd fans have more faith in Vidic than Rio :p.

We have been down this road before briefly ;)

Man utd fans thought Heinze was the best left back in the country as well when anyone with half a brain cell could see he was as ropey as **** and his positioning was terrible at the best of times, I bet many don't feel the same anymore about Judas ;) Don't get me wrong Vidic is a very good CB and I rate him highly but Rio is in my eyes superior. Vidic is probably better in the air (though Rio is decent in that department) and stronger but apart from that Rio is better in most other things. If Vidic was to be injured for a period of time I think you would cope but you would have big problems without Rio. His reading of the game, pace and the aura of calm I feel he brings to your defence isn't mentioned enough because in the past he was a bit dopey. Vidic falls into this 'gets stuck in' category that people in this country love....
