pan labyrinth was good but not a classic, not amongst films like shawshank. another film that is pants and i cannot believe gets rated is requiem for a dream. the phrase 'i want my x amount of hours back' get thrown around a lot, but from this film i actually do want my life back.

It's a good film but, once again, not amazing. And I can think of a tonne of films better than Shawshank. But not, I'll admit, so easily digestible. Shawshank is a marvellous film, certainly.

In no particular order, and rly I tend to forget a lot, so let's just say I really like these films.

The Seventh Continent
Dekalog - a series, but never the less.
Baraka
Seven Samurai
Ed Wood - And plan 9 from outer space really, a bit contrived I suppose to mention that, but it's a special film.
2001
A Man Escaped
Papillon
Apocalypse Now
Paper Moon
The Shining
Fitzcarraldo
71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance
Night on Earth

There's loads of others too but I'm lazy; Eraserhead, Novecento, Akira, North by Northwest, Sergio Leone westerns, Edwards Scissorhands, Things to Come, blah blah. Hundreds of amazing films :), I haven't really mentionned any Asian cinema there either. (Paul whitehouse voice - FILMS ARE BRILLIAAAANT).

Looking through others' lists confirms what I said above. I couldn't name a favourite film let alone a top ten list. I like films for all sorts of reasons, and some films do things better than others.

My favourite score and incidental is from K-Pax, but in my eyes the story wasn't as good as say Fight Club. Fight Club wasn't as gripping as Shawshank etc.
