depends completely on the day/shift, I can work as little as 3 hours to a full 12 hours a day depending on the mentally challengedness of the operators tbh

meant to do 7.5 but i can get away with 7 due to being late/leaving early :D muhaha, excluding sleeping on the job.

But i also cover 3 or 4 sites 18 hours a day for p1 critical problems. Which means working to 11pm with no over time or waking up at 7am if problems exist that need fixing remotely. But if that happens i just get time in lieu. Its flexible. I like flexy time because some days i like to go in early and others i like to go in for 10:30am.

When I am working (at uni but on placement Jan-Mar which is handily the busy season for auditing) I am contracted 7.5 hours per day but this can easily extend up to 12+, if you add to that potentially up to 1.5 hour commute each way it makes for a very long day!

Whats a lunch break?

Put it this way, last month I did 100 hours overtime. I'm only meant to do 40 hours a week...

Used to do 14 hours a day, 15 minute lunch break and go into the office every sunday :( Now I imagine I get a similar result from putting in 3-4 hours effort a day!

Like many others here I'm a shift worker - my current shift pattern (which sucks) is Fri-Tue alternating between a 06:00-14:00 and a 14:00-22:00 shift. It sucks as I'm working every weekend but on the plus side the shift allowance is good as is the after hours rate and I never do overtime!

Hoping to make the move to part time as soon as I can afford to though :p

I work the days and hours I'm ordered to work at the beginning of each week. Peasants often don't get fixed working hours or days any more. I average 40 hours a week and I average 5 days a week, but I can't rely on anything or plan anything in advance. I might do 4 hours one day and 12 the next, I might have monday and friday off one week and tuesday and sunday off the next week, I might do 4 days one week and 6 the next. It's a sign of dominance - they control my life.

They don't make us touch our forelocks or bow as a sign of submission yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if that happened. They're increasingly hostile to us because they see us as a cost. Way of the world. Could be worse. Local management, who see us as people, do what they can to mitigate it (e.g. I get the same days off most weeks).

Upto 3 15 hour shifts and upto 3 13 hour shifts over a 6 day week.

Break times vary during that time, can be as litter as 45min over a 15hour shift depending how you record "periods of availability" I.e. waiting time..
It's not classed as a break as such, it depends entirely on how much driving and / or working time you have done.

In some scenarios, it's perfectly legal to do a 15 hour shift and record no break whatsoever!!

Sometimes you have to take a second 45minute break depending on how many hours you have driven.

If you want a short working week, DON'T become an HGV driver!!!

I feel your pain you work similar hours to what I put in in the taxi trade

At least I get home every night which is a perk a lot of you guys don't get
