You're only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake

This thread deserves a bump. I just made this for the first time today and apart from being a little dense the mug cake was great, I think I used the wrong type of flour but it was still edible.

you can make a syrup sponge in 5mins. Not done one for years but I think its 100g marge, ~175g self raising flour, 100g sugar and 2 eggs, mix it all up, put 3-4tbps in bottom of a pyrex dish add the cake mix and put it in the microwave for ~3mins on full.

Get some instead custard and you have a quick and easy okish desert.

That sounds nice, might have to try that soon!

I loved the syrup sponge they made at my school. In fact my primary school and secondary made the exact same sponge. Had a thick syrup on the bottom, would love to find out how to make that.

made that last week and it was really nice, gotta put plenty of golden syrup in the bottom for the cake mix though ;)

I actually used this recipe as the Poppy on a rememberance cake my daughter made for combined arts homework (the other kids all did drawings and poems so she got a level 8b out of it :D).

It was made in a bowl for the shape.

I made this yesterday and it's taste was good...
Ingredients
* 4 Tablespoons Flour
* 4 Tablespoons Sugar
* 2 Tablespoons cocoa
* 1 Egg
* 3 Tablespoons Milk
* 3 Tablespoons Sunflower oil
* 3 Tablespoons Chocolate chips (Optional)
* 1 Splash Vanilla Extract
* 1 Splash Favorite Tipple (Optional)
* 1 Large Coffee Mug

Method
* Add dry ingredients to your largest mug and mix well.
Add the egg and mix thoroughly.
Pour in the milk and oil and mix well.
Add the chocolate chips (if using), vanilla extract and a drop or two of your favourite tipple, then mix again.
Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts (high).
The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!
Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.
EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous).
If your feeling very very naughty, cover liberally in Bailey's Irish Cream.

mmmmmmmmmm

Just got an urge after seeing this thread so gave it a bash, I think I used too much flower however it's not too noticeable, didn't have any vanilla so added golden syrup.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

AHHH QUESTION!

How can I stop ending up with little balls of unmixed flour? I mixed as best I could however apparently I was neither vigorous or violent enough.

p.s Slightly overdid the sugar and syrup, won't be sleeping till June.

I worry.. :p

Use a sieve, and don't dump in all in at once; do it bit by bit . :)

I may have another crack at this and try and perfect it to my taste.

Has anyone tried this with alcohol? Cointreau perhaps? I know the chocolate cake I made with that stuff last year was amazing (well, I put the alcohol in the icing to keep it alcoholic :P)
I'd have ago myself but I don't have eggs, or cocoa, or vanilla.... or flour.

just made this (brother left cocolate chips and teeny tiny marshmallows behind so had to be done) but he's used all the coco powder.

decided to use galaxy hot chocolate mix, it's much lighter in colour (because the hot chocolate mix is one that's meant for mixing with water so has powdered milk or something in it) it's sweeter and a little bit milkier tasting but still perfectly moist and deliciously light.

I've made this recipe loads of times some times (i use 3 tbs of butter instead of oil though) so drunk i don't even remember making it, yet every time it's come out gorgeous, i'm pretty sure this is the perfect recipe and cannot be screwed up :D

it's sooo much nicer with chocolate chips though.

but you gotta eat it fast before your stomach realises how much sugar and fat you're forcing down it and demands you stop.

Annoyingly this tastes better than my proper oven cakes :mad:
