YouTube Premium

What do you use on your phone? If you use anything. Iirc smarttube doesn't support mobile devices. I currently use the browser or newpipe. TIA

I don't watch any videos on my phone. I don't see the point tbh, it's such a small screen I would rather watch the video at home on the TV. I only tend to listen to audio books from my phone as I work.

How do you block shorts? I've missed something, and get absolutely blasted with nonsense.
Right, think I've found it. Not using it on my phone but I might add it anyway. I've got an extension for firefox called Enhancer for Youtube that has the option to block them (and was set to do so), however even with it disabled I wasn't seeing any shorts, then I found I'd added the list on here to my Ublock Origin https://github.com/gijsdev/ublock-hide-yt-shorts

Also, testing with Chrome and it added and it's got rid of shorts, but wtaf is Youtube Playables, dear lord.
*runs back to firefox*

Only reason for me to have premium would be for the better bitrate music for car use,
some of the free songs at 160kbs opus sound OK though, 128kbs stuff less so & maybe the 160kbs stuff wouldn't play at a higher bitrate with premium anyway.
e: eg this has opus 251 codec on free youtube

However (like tidal) there is no EQ built into player, so on IOS it's no good for the car that needs EQ, so spotify(or $$ apple music) is the solution.

.... how many videos are 1080p native to justify that too (vs 1180i, 720 'upscaled', let alone 4K)

Questions please:

Does Premium get rid of ads?

Can I still use Sponsorblock on Chrome?

Does it allow me to download for offline viewing?

Does it include YouTube music?

Does YouTube music allow offline listening?

I've avoided paying for ages but I want to follow a long course on YouTube which means I'll be watching a lot on tubes and train lines with poor signal. If the answers to all of these questions is yes, I'll sub for a year and see how it goes.

Cheers :)

Excellent, thank you kindly sir!

A bonus that I found, if a podcast you listen to also have a YouTube channel showing the video. By “listening” to the video (screen off), you will get no ads vs the same podcast being listened on the Apple Podcast app, for example.

Anyway around paying full price now? Paying nearly 20 quid now for family plan and it used to be £1.50
Google vpn-tools and youtube, follow one of the guides.
You need an apple device to go via turkey. (You basically sub to you tube using the credit in your itunes account)

if you were following a youtube course of some kind - you'd just download all the videos on a laptop add-free and save them to watch later on your phone, or put on usb key ;
no need to subscribe.

Is there an updated list of countries that work? I can only find old ones, I subbed via Ukraine got a few months out of it then it got cancelled by YT.

I’ve needed up paying full price after being evicted from Ukraine. I tried to go without it for a week and the ads were just too much. Also switched to YouTube music from Spotify and I’m liking it better.
