YouTube Premium

Not really related to Premium, but today I learnt that use of the Subscription tab/view on YouTube is the minority (like 3%). I have history disabled so the home and shorts video are blank for me. I only see videos on the subscription tab or by searching for something specifically.

How does everyone here use it? Am I a weirdo?

Do people just go via the Home view and hope for the best? Surely you're just bored at that point rather than trying to watch something interesting.

I'm bookmarked to the sub page, then I look at home afterwards. Thankfully I've blocked all the shorts so I don't have to see them.

Use a bit of intelligence? You couldn't even sign up using a VPN, shows your level of intelligence and makes your opinion irrelevant.

If you don't want to use YTP then that's your problem, but you're just chatting absolute breeze about how these alternative free methods are so so so much better than YTP.
Thanks for your utter lack of understanding that people can have different opinions. There is a big difference between couldn't sign up and not wanting to go the apple gift card route or Ininal card for Turkish payments. Jog on and use YTP if that is what you want to do. There is just no need to get angry and take your frustration out on somebody else because you pay for something that they don't find value in anymore. Once again in case it takes three times to sink in and for you to understand:

Smart Tube offers me a better service than paying for YTP.

How do you block shorts? I've missed something, and get absolutely blasted with nonsense.
There's a ublock origin filter which hides them and the Short shortcut on the left sidebar IIRC.

Edit: just had a look at my filters on my phone and I can only see two YouTube ones, so will need to test them. One is to hide the short shortcut at the bottom at a guess. Not at home so can't tell you what my desktop has. I'll have a look later on if I remember, if I don't give me a nudge.
For clarity - it doesn't disable shorts, if I get sent a link I can still see it, but they aren't in my feed nor are there shortcuts.

Edit 2 : phone looks to be the unhook extension actually

What do you use on your phone? If you use anything. Iirc smarttube doesn't support mobile devices. I currently use the browser or newpipe. TIA

Weirdo IMO.

you’ve disabled one of the best parts of YouTube - discoverability. I’ve been served so many videos frankly excellent content via the home page that I didn’t know I wanted to watch.

I still use the subscription tab for my core channels that up load regularly though.

But I find plenty of new videos from the related videos that come up whilst viewing videos that I've searched for or from subscribers I've followed for a long time.

Is an algorithmic feed with no user input really the best part of YouTube? One that can be manipulated at will by bad actors or Google themselves? The same feed that's fed all the crap and lies to impressionable viewers for past 5 years or so resulting in the nonsense we see... Everywhere today? I'll continue without the brain rot, thanks very much.

Once you have an established viewing history you don't get all the nonsense on the recommended page.

Every now and then a rogue video comes in but you just say you aren't interested or don't recommend channel.

This, very little nonsense in my home feed these days. I get zero political and 'current events' kind of stuff in my feed at all. If something does come up that you are not interested in, click the 'X' and it goes away.

I'd definitely say it's more often than every now and then - it seems to be laser focused on wanting me to watch videos on learning German at the moment, I have never watched anything even remotely related to German, or any languages like that. That and days in the life of Japanese bakeries, but I watch a lot of baking content so can understand that one.

Shorts on the other hand are the wild west, and I'm not convinced there's even remotely any form of algorithm going on there.

Yeah I ignore shorts.

My feed is pretty good tbh but I am active at telling youtube to not recommend something.

When I compare my feed to the default feed on a clean browser I just think mine is pretty dull really but at least the content is mostly sane :o

This is on TV btw, I find the youtube app on my phone recommends a lot more nonsense and rarely watch on it my laptop.
