My youtube family sub via Turkey dropped from £2.32 in June to £1.86 this month - not sure if weaker lira or stronger pound.

Agree with that - although I pay about £1.86 a month for the family version which my 3 sons all use as well. Youtube is borderline unwatchable with ads. I probably watch more youtube than normal TV these days. If I had to endure the endless ads I'd probably watch it a lot less.

For those who got YT premium via VPN, how long have you had the subscriptions active for? Would have thought that after a few months Google would know you are not located in Turkey etc

Been paying monthly for a individual license via Turkey on a UK debit card since Oct 2022 it's still fine so far.

Got premium via Turkey in April £12 for the annual sub.
They haven't closed this loophole yet but probably a matter of time.

Easily over three years, i've had to move countries in that time from India to Turkey as well.

Had mine since March 2020 via India.
Yeah when I forget to sign in on a new device I'm always blown away by how many ads there are. I wouldn't be able to enjoy a video and get into the flow of it with adverts. I also probably spend more time watching YouTube than actual TV and I need YouTube premium as I use it on a range of devices (PC/iPhone/iPad/Sky box/LG TV app/AppleTV app) and not all support ad-blockers
I've been using it for about 3 years with no issue. During these years I've lived in India, Turkey and now Argentina.
