YouTube Premium

I've seen people say that on the iPhone app they get messages popping up saying "not available in your area" and/or signs them out. I'd only need it for iPhone as my TV uses SmartTube, as it's way better than YouTube and doesn't have ads.

Can't say i ever had a problem with it. Since I signed up I've been to Singapore, Japan, Italy, Croatia and it works in all the areas, via mobile data, local e-sim or through my VPN on hotel Wifi.

fighting ad-block seems pointless.

YouTube will end up baking the Ads into the videos themselves, the creators will just mark where they want the ads like they do now for ad spots and during the upload the Ad will be automatically added to the video and a flat fee paid instead of CPM, no doubt screwing everyone over

I pay for premium and it winds me up that you still get adverts and lengthy endorsements from YouTubers, Google need to get a handle on that.

I don't mind a little nod or suggestion, but was watching someone the other day and they did a 30 second blurb on some crap mobile game grrrr

Yeah there's a few channels i've seen that are particularly bad for it, i think they have to declare it as 'includes paid promotion', maybe YT takes a higher % of Ad revenue due to it? not sure

Desktop - download Sponsorblock on Chrome or Firefox (probably on other browsers too)

Android - download Revanced and enjoy all the Youtube you want without adds, and it'll also skip intros, sponsors, and if you're listening to music and it has long intros (like the music I do tends to have) you can even tell it to skip to the music. It's the best app I own, by a country mile.

Iphone - soz lol but money bro

You can run adblock on iOS just fine, but the only issue is you will have to use YT through Safari as its only a browser extension, used it mainly that way before I went the VPN route and Safari had no issues blocking every add.

Problem with that is if you turn the screen off, the sound / music stops. With Revanced I can pick a nice long playlist, pop my phone in my pocket and crack on.

Actually I used the built in iOS picture in picture for that in Safari, so once the video was playing in its own window on the home screen I could lock the phone and it would still continue to play.

Haven't tried this in ages so not sure if it still works, but you could create this shortcut and launch Safari YT into a PiP window this way, had to do it this way once when YT blocked PiP on Safari.

And this is why I'll never own another Apple product, I love the ability to think outside the box and Apple restricts people far more than is necessary. Pity really as their hardware is absolutely fantastic.

Not really Apples fault because YT locks basic features like PiP behind a paywall, not sure if they still have on Safari these days but as PiP is part of the OS YT should never have the ability to block that, at least through the browser.

It seems that they updated it and it shows adverts from themselves at the end of the video. Play store has quite a lot of negative reviews as well. I did not like it at all. The ads cannot be skipped either.

I think it is done for legal reasons. You need to clearly state if a video/picture/post contains an advert/sponsor.

You've been goosed then, download from their official site instead. No issues here.

None of those are just liking videos or subscribing to channels which is what my reply was to. Obviously anyone paying them money for something extra makes them money.

True. My mistake.

But you could argue that whilst the above doesn't net them any actual money, it aids in its generation. If nobody did what's in question then YT would be hindered in knowing what to promote and how to focus their ads effectively.

You know the saying, if it's free, you are the product.

Youtube has updated again, this time instead of a warning it shows a black screen and the Ad plays in the background.... Started this morning via Ublock Origin
