Z68 Extreme4 Gen3

You are being far too anal IMO, but each to their own.....Those tiny spikes could be anything, including an inaccurate reading.
no..

when cpus are not under load 100% the voltage rails are not put under a lot of presser so your more likely to see spikes anywhere upto the vid.

hence why the bios shows 1.356v because the bios doesn't put it under load 100

Why are you worrying about a millisecond spike up to 1.35v in a low load (and therefore low power current) scenario?

why should i stick with spikes up to 1.35-1.37v . when i can manuelly do a oc which gives 1.31v under load instead of 1.32-1.33v and only gives me 0.001 spike (1.32v) and still get low idle voltage of 0.094v

Asrock Z68 Extreme7 worth the extra 60 notes over the Extreme4 Gen3??

Have there been any known issues with these boards?

Cheers

If you need 16x16 then get the ext 7, but if not then the cheaper board should suffice. Some say the 7 is the better overclocker, but I think this is likely to be very subjective as there are so many variables. I have had the ext 7 now for about a month or so and luckily no problems so far - seems very reliable - currently running my 2700k at 4.6 and 1.304 loaded v core, all tested and stable. read some reviews on the net.

To be fair I've haven't seen any spikes in CPU-z so its not something that worries me, and if I did get any I still wouldn't be that worried.

If you are running on a 30″ display at 2560×1600 or below, an x8/x8 SLI or CFX configuration will perform the same as a x16/x8 or x16/x16 configuration. The only time that you should even be slightly concerned about running at x8/x8 is when you move up to a multiple display setup. When we pushed the GTX 480 SLI at 5760×1200 we saw up to a 7% difference in performance between x8/x8 and x16/x16, in favor of x16/x16, but that was in one game only.

Using the pre set bios options, I can't seem to clock my i5 2500k past 4.4Ghz. If I try the 4.6 setting it locks up on the W7 boot screen. Am I missing something or have I hit the wall on my CPU?

Quick question :)

Ive just built my new rig with this mobo (very imperssed so far)! Just wondering if anyone can tell me if its worth updating the bios from 1.00 to 1.10. I dont have the mouse cursor bug or anything but the only reason I can think of getting it is for XMP 1.3. Is this worth it or not really?

Thanks :D

I got the mouse bug after updating to 1.10 Up to you really if you want to update, do you have memory that supports XMP 1.3? If so, so for it! :D

Ob if u do update the bios and previously had ahci Sara connection remember to go into bios n change it back as bios update flips it to the other method.. Was hungover when I updated mine and spent an hr or so working out why it wasn't booting... Schoolboy error but easily overlooked

Wont bother updating the BIOS then in that case. It works fine...and memory doesnt uxe xmp 1.3 so kinda pointless to update something that works.

Im about to attempt to OC on this. Quite nervous as Ive NEVER done anything like this and dont wanna inadvertingly fry something coz Im using to much voltage etc. And I dont want to use Auto so much as I know it can put more volts through than it really needs to.

Not looking for a massive overclock either. Something modest around 4.5 would do me fine tbh. At least if I can get that far then if I ever want to push it then at least I have the basics.

Anyone have any advice/settings or anything for this complete noob before I start? :)

Could anyone help me out with controlling PWM fans? There are two 4pin PWM fan headers on the board and i have one used by my CPU fan and the other with a case fan. When in the BIOS i set the fan control to automatic but what number should i set them to? The CPU header ranges from 1-9 and the chassis header 1-5. I want the fans to run as slow as possible when idle and as fast as possible when the CPU comes under load.

Thanks

Hey Guys

Got my i5 2500k running @ 4.4ghz with the Auto Overclock on this board.

Anyone able to give me the settings to make that a manual OC? im a bit of a noob when it comes to the voltages and other options and dont want to fry my CPU or anything.

Cheers in advance
