Z68 Extreme4 Gen3

OK well I'm running one of these boards with an i5 2500K, and have been looking into OCing it, so much has changed, I've tried reading round/up on all the new settings and there seems to be a lack of clarity over what each one is/does/should be set at. So for now I've wimped out and used the Pre OC 4.6 setting in the BIOS, didnt know that was there til reading this thread. Stable under IBT (max stress) though temps did hit 69 which I'm a little disappointed with as I'm running custom water. Still my GPU stays at 42 under extreme burn in test with Furmark. Once I have enough time to fully work out what all the BIOS settings are and what their relation to each other is, so I understand what I'm adjusting, I may (will) have a go at doing it manually and trying to get volts down and thus temps down. Whilst running IBT Vid went up to 1.4161 measured in CoreTemp and VCore went to 1.344 on CPUz

Should be able to lower the vcore slightly. And yes - it is that easy!! SB just aint as much fun to OC lol.

Whilst the board layout maybe pants - I do like the layout of the slots. Its perfect for crossfire and to be able to slot a soundcard between the graphics cards for example.

I have to disagree; it’s such a tight unsightly fit as you can see below to squeeze in the sound card between my two 5850s. This board makes my old Gigabyte board look way sexier, this board is invisible because all the components are squashed together in the middle of the board, I guess it makes cooling more effective because the heat is concentrated in one place in the middle of the board. Anyway, after three BSODs I have got the VCore down to 1.29-1.31volts, temps peaked at 69 degrees on two cores, average throughout the stress test was 61.75 degrees. As a Newbie to Intel, is this OK for a 24/7 overclock?

Depends what your using to stress test mate. Low 60's is great for an overclocked SB IF thats whilst running IBT on maximum and threads manually set to 4 or 8.

I quite liked the layout:

Anyways on a side note, I removed my graphics cards today and had to resort to using the onboard jobbie. At first I kept getting serious screen flicker and sometimes the screen would switch off and on again.

I performed a complete BIOS reset and left the system unclocked (stock basically). At first it just flickered a bit and now the screen has started going black again!!!!

Anyone else using the onboard graphics? I'm using it via the displayport connection. Wierd this as I didn't have any problems using my 5850's....

Zoomee using same board, ran Windows updates this morning, there is a new Intel HD Graphic Driver available now for the onboard graphics.

Just installed it & onboard graphics are perfect now, had a similar problem to you, which I had put down to the cable I was using.

I tried both drivers mate, the new one from windows update was the one I installed first last night - dated early Dec 2012 yeah? I then tried the one from the ASRock website.

Also did a complete BIOS reset (pull CMOS battery) and still getting the same, slight flickering and screen going blank every so often :(

Could be BIOS version too so will try to go back to 1.0 or 1.1 from 1.15 tonight.

Went back to 1.10 bios earlier today. Ever so slightly glitchy but a hell of an improvment! - At least no blank screens now, just ever so slight glitches once in a while.

Looks like the issue is BIOS related, no wonder they dont want to release any new BIOS versions!!!
