Agreed I am using an Noctua L12 in my Mini ITX build! I rarely heard my CPU fan and I am only running the 92mm fan because it's in a Ghost S1. It's rather annoying to be honest.

your post should be old vs new memeFinally up and running with everything brand new. Really pleased with this 3600 chip TBH. I was worried about doing this complete build as I have done anything PC related for a very long time. The only issue I ran into was no post to screen on first switch on but it was just a ram stick that wasn't seated properly. Every appears stable although still some testing to do. Not played with bios yet apart from setting the ram at XMP profile 1 to get it running at its default 3200mhz. Every thing else in bios is set at auto so any tips on what i should be looking to adjust would be appreciated.
Cpu temps seen OK but they are jumping around a bit and the cam software for the AIO is reporting temps at 50 degrees on the cpu and not moving so probably needs an update.
Feels quite nice to have a clean install of windows after all this time too
And just for reference my old trusty machine that has served me well for over 6 years (the case is about 18 years old).
The case behind it contains an Athlon XP2500 and is still fully working
looks super, you still going to play in bios anyway whatever we going to advice you: "just leave everything at auto and enjoy the ride"

Nothing to do with heat - the Ryzen 3700X consumes less power than the Ryzen 5 2600X. The Ryzen 7 2700 die is nearly 200mm2 and the Ryzen 7 3700X is under 80MM2 - it's dissipating more watts per mm2.
It was the same problem going from Sandy Bridge to Ivy Bridge.
Hmm temperatures really aren't a problem for me despite the fact that my cooler is pretty old and the stock voltage seems pretty high. I have 2x intake fans and 1x exhaust fan all running at 50% (600-700 RPM), then my 2x CPU fans running at 900 & 1100 RPM. Can't hear the PC at all under my desk and temperatures are fine. Everything else is a pain in the arse but not temperatures.

So I really just need to get a new CPU Cooler then in short?
Do you guys see any temp difference between cpu fan max and min? Like when you say it's 50C idle , does it actually go down if you increase fan speed?
For me it made next to no difference, which is why I slowed down all my case fans to 50% and CPU fans to ~70%. The air coming out the back of the case is barely warm though so I definitely think getting the heat out of the CPU is a challenge. Can you imagine if they used Intel-esque toothpaste??
I wouldn't be surprised if we saw specialist cooler plates or something for chiplet designs later this year.
Really not much headroom with the OC on these but it's fun to back your head against a brick wall.

Interestingly if I switch MSI's 'Game Boost' on in the BIOS I get 4.2 all core at much lower voltages and temps (1.1-1.2v). I expect it's reporting the voltages wrong though, and the lack of boosting hurts game performance a little. Good for productivity but bad for gaming, ironically.

Exactly, colling at idle doesn't matter. Just adjust fancurve for load temps 60+ or something. I have at idle 33C with spikes to 50 and drops to 35 again. Doesn't matter. In gaming...49C
I wonder If stock settings can actually tell you OC headroom. For instance I have two cores (9&11) that on auto achieve max 4.375 and therefore this would be my max OC. Can't be bothered to manually overclock at the moment (was more playing with memory settings etc).
Which of your cores are the best and 2nd best BTW per CCX?

I think that's a pretty fair assumption, according to HWInfo cores 1-4 seem the best. That lines up with Ryzen master (see below) and my per CCX overclock. I'm still under but probably down to voltages.
Core 2 on my first CCX looks to be the best, that's the CCX I could push 4.275 on. Couldn't go above 4.25 on the other.

On my 3700X, so far I've managed 4.375 on my best 2 cores and 4.315 on the rest.
It's a brick wall but I'm having fun. However my DDR4 is runnign at 22Vas and I don't know ghow to fix!

Maybe,but again I had an Ivy Bridge Xeon E3 1230 V2/Core i7 3770 in my mini-ITX system and with a Corsair H40 AIO water cooler and I was hitting in the mid 70s easily under load with the fan ramping up to max and it was even worse with the Intel stock cooler.
I have the B450 version of your motherboard and the Ryzen 7 3700X is only consuming around 10W to 15W more than my Ryzen 5 2600.
I would try adding another fan to the Noctua L12 as it can have a fan below and above the heatsink. It might be Asus is pushing a bit higher voltages than required so it's best to keep checking for newer BIOS revisions.
Have you attempted any all core OCs yet? My friend was saying he watched some analysis and apparently the 500 series boards can push 100MHz more. I haven't seen the video/article yet but might be true.
Pretty annoying if there's an artificial restriction on 400, but I do seem to be able to push to exactly 100 under these.

So should we expect this to be improved on the next gen of Ryzen?
I wish I could add another fan to my CPU cooler but I am very restricted with my case Louqe Ghost S1. The L12 is seen as the best air cooler for it but you can only run the small 92mm fan.
I have a small top hat which I could use to add 2 slim 15mm Noctua fans to extract the hot air from the case which might improve things abit. I would love to go custom water cooling in the future. Maybe this will accelerate this dream.
Don't get me wrong the speed of this chip is amazing compared to my old 2700 its just a shame about the acoustics/heat really.
Like my chip seems to rarely dip under 4.3. Even when on the desktop or idling. I could rarely get my 2700 to boost for some reason.
