anybody else cant watch tv with sign language

Yup, the 'speak & spell' dude in the corner is very distracting, particularly on wildlife documentaries and the like.
With things like Sky TV it surely can't be all that hard to make it a system setting (like subtitles) that then displays in one corner.

It is very annoying, what I can't understand is why can't it be hidden for all programs unless it says in the tv menu to display it.

The sign language peopel are the most distracting, they take up half the screen.

The automatic subtitles from teletext can be quite amusing at times.
The accuracy has a lot to be desired and hilarity often ensues.

But with digital tv, they had a great opportunity to include embedded signals, that could be used or discarded by the box.

The person signing doesn't bother me at all, after a while watching the program you lose notice.

As already mention deaf people find signing easier, and that's for one simple reason, learning to read when you can't hear is no easy task, not being able to sound out the letters/words etc. so give them a break.

And with the digital set top boxes around today the technology simply isn't in place to allow them to overlay a person signing, it'd require a completely seperate video transmission. It's not like subtitles which are simply a stream of text which the set top box draws on screen.

Actually, people who have been deaf since birth often have learning difficulties, and reading english is quite hard for them - it's essentially their second language. Sign Language and lip reading doesnt follow the same sentence structure as normal english is written.

Signing on music channels is most likely there for those that aren't completely deaf and only hard of hearing.

I read allot of your posts and agree with most but this was a major fail, you should do some research on deaf people and music mate so you don't make this mistake again.

Hard of hearing is not the same as deaf.
Also playing is diffrent from listening. I still can't see how a person who needs signing can appreciate music on tv.

Is there any deaf people on here, who can enlighten me?

The music channels are just about the videos anyway, which a deaf person can appreciate just as well.

No it's not the same, but they may rely on signing to help follow the vocals.

Who honestly cares. Signing is only normally on programs scheduled during the night/early morning anyway.
