BFG 8800GT OC2 constantly locksup and artifacts after 5-10 min of play

For what it's worth, if I bought a card and it didn't work properly at its stock speeds, it would be going back pronto.

what he said, if it doesn't work at the speed it's rated to work at & nothing else is to blame ( psu, etc ) then the cards defective & ide get it RMA'd.

Hi, I'm sad to hear of this woozy. :(

I don't know if this makes sense but have you tried the drivers on the supplied disk?

I'm using that one so far no problems...

Has the crashing been happening in ALL games or just one in particular?

yeah every single game after about 10 minutes of play

Gears of war
Crysis
UT3
COD 4 MW
Jericho

but as said reducing the memory clock by 50 made the card stable and with the fan now at 60% all the time

I may return it if i can get a replacement within a week i see the next order is due in on friday

NOT true ...

if within first 12 months then OCUKs responsibility for RMA

how long it will take is another matter -but your contract is with OCUK not with BFG

Mark.

Woozy, so Buckster above is correct and you rma'd with OcUK?

I think you did the correct thing by rma'ing it - it's not fair that you have to reduce the memory clock to make it stable.

As far as the issue of the fan going at 60%, I did it with rivatuner myself this way:

Above 65 deg the fan goes up to 45%
above 68 deg it's 50%
Above 75 deg it's 65%
Above 85 deg it's 90%
Above 92% it's 100%

During Oblivion and Crysis the temperature of the card is between 72 and 82 (it goes higher with Oblivion than Crysis I think), hence my fan during gameplay always runs at 65%. My card never got above 82 degrees though.

So during games you have to have the fan running at 60-65% otherwise it'd heat up I guess...

You ask for it to be refunded once the rma is complete. I suppose you could ask them to arrange a pickup but I don't know if they would.

Not being funny but seems a lot of BFG's acting up on lots of forums (think its OC versions).

Someone here hinted at them not even being tested (not sure if BS or not).

sorry all

with my memory at 901 in rivatuner what does that work out as

OC2 default mem being 1950MHz? (975 in rivatuner)

Edit: i only tried at 901 will try at 950 now for the mem

A mate of mine is having the same problems with a non pre oc version. He spent another £30 on a DuOrb cooler and ram sinks and it is still locking up even though his temps don't go over 50c. It seems they are just defective. I wouldn't waste any more money on them, RMA time.

Works out at just a smidge over stock mem speeds which are 1800, 901 would be 1802mhz, and 950 would be 1900mhz.

Id RMA it, as you have 28 days from when you got it, so you could hang on to it a bit to see if they get some more back in stock before your 28 days is up, and if they do RMA it then.

ok just tried 950 and lasted about 15 mins before it locked up so stock mem speed only :(

edit. yeah will RMA it then. i have the rma number already but do i still have a totall 28 days from arrival before i send it back as i would like to wait for them to be in stock first

It does make you wonder what sort of testing they put these pre-clocked cards through. I can't imagine for the life of me that it's very extensive which is why I don't buy pre-clocked cards.

i guess they test them for a few minutes which the card is fine with but after 10 mins then splutter
