How hot should a Q6600 G0 be on a Tuniq Tower at idle, mine seems toasty.

it's a new case, so a new one is out of the question.

I don't have the tools available to mod it either.

I was told by people on here that this case has good airflow :(

Have you the options for adding further fans into that case? Maybe time to get a new case?

yes, but it wouldn't be in a helpful position.

I could prboly put one in if I took out the 3 odd blanking plates, drill holes in the plastic covers, then stick a fan bhind them? dunno how i'd mount it though.

To get core temp to work in vista 64bit you need to press f8 during windows boot up and select disable driver signing. (you will need to do this everytime you boot)

core temp works now, but thanks anyway.

I'm just trying to work out how I can get temps cooler with the side of the case on.

Get yourself a hole saw kit and add some 80mm fans to the side panel. Prob cheapest and easiest mod you can do, if you take your time with it and dont bodge it.

how much would that cost?

I'm thinking about just buying a sheet of mesh to replace the side panel.

I've just modded my PC case - the Antec 900 by cutting holes in it for cable management. I bought the holesaw kit off the 'bay for £3 plus postage!
You'd need that, a couple of 80mm fans and fan guards (£6-£7 each) and you'd want a small metal drillbit for the screw holes for the fans. Could do it for under £20.

It's not as hard as it sounds, though a little daunting maybe. Taking a drill to a new case just doesn't seem right, that's for sure, and my case was £70!

If you do go down this route, alls you need to do is cut 1 big hole for each fan and 4 holes for the screws to mount the fan, slap the fan in the case, fanguard on the outside and mount with the screws. Trick with the holesaw kit is to dril slow and steady - can take 15 mins to drill 1 hole. You don't wanna be pushing too hard or you risk bending the case, which aint good.

You can get diamond edge holesaw kits but needless to say they're more expensive.

It must be an airflow issue here. You have remounted your TT with new paste and its still warm, so can't think it to be anything else. This will be the cheapest solution for you - to mod rather than buying a new case. Invest in some cable ties too and try to make all cables as neat and tidy as possible, hiding them wherever you can.

Hope this helps mate.

Leave it for a week mate most new cpu installs take a week to get the thermal stuff settled. I know it took mine a few weeks and it did change in 2 weeks. So dont do anything drastic yet and if worst comes to worse, just update the fans on front and back if you can to more powerful fans compared to what your using. And tidy the cables up as best you can.

yeah I think I will leave it for now.

what dr.saarf suggested seems out of my budget and abilites.

I'll just have the side off for a few weeks and if it doesnt improve after than I'll just buy a big sheet of mesh to use as a side panal.

how's this look...

Lookin good mate. Bump the clock to 2.8ghz and do a 8hr prime test with small fft. If it passes and is below 55 then oc a bit more to say 3ghz. Tho id probably not recommend really going past 2.8ghz till you have left the paste settle and bond after 2 weeks. Tho leave it 3 weeks just for best effect. About side of case. It doesnt have to be fully off, just have a small gap so take it off a bit but not fully if thats possible on ** case, as on mine i can just unlock the hatches and open the top a bit like a reversed window lol. Even then i dont cos i dont need to.

But if u do need good airflow do what i said before. its cheaper than all the other alternatives as more powerful fans arnt that pricey compared to other things. And another thing is i think you can replace the TT fan thats in the middle, with a more powerfull fan as well if you wanted. I think i read once its changable. If not well you could think about overvolting it for more fan speed i think. I think i read its doable.

decent fans are often £10 each? so that's come to £30, whihc is a fair bit, any particualr fans you can recomend?

I decided to go straight for 3GHz :p probably rather foolishly lol but here's a screenie doing small ffts in prime...
