January Transfer Window

Raises an interesting point really - we as Utd fans are blessed by some of the best players around, just because someone doesnt play well for us doesnt really make them a "bad" player, just one not really up to the standards required , sometimes I (and fans like me) can be too harsh on otherwise decent players

This is gonna come out all wrong im sure! To play for Man Utd you have to have a certain mentality as well as ability. You can go back to Gary Birtles (sp?) as an example of a player who had the ability but not the strength to play for United. A personal example for me right now is probably Saha who i just dont think has it but is still a good player. At the opposite end of the scale Cantona arrived and totally rose to it. Its probably more amplified with goalkeepers as they are under such scrutiny. Who would have thought Ole could come in and make such an impact given his modest background?

At the opposite end of the argument again, have you noticed the number of players who Man Utd let go who never scale the dizzy heights again. Butt, Kanchelskis, Gillespie, Sharpe, countless youngsters etc. There are very few players that Fergie sells that come back to bite him on the ass. RvN and Stam maybe but even Beckham i would suggest was sold at the right time and good as RvN was we did better without him.

I know this sounds like an arrogant Man Utd post but i dont mean it to come across like that! Liverpool and Arsenal fans probably feel the same!

yeah I would go along with that (and concur about Arsenal / Liv/ Chelski players too)

Saha had the skill but I dont think he does anymore - and he doesnt have the mentality for sure (maybe thats because of the injuries he has suffered while at OT)

Im sure there are a few kids who we have let go that have been match winners against us in the past (my memory is failing me but Im sure its happened in the last 10-15 years a couple of times) and a couple we have let slip through our fingers also (Ronaldinho...and I cant think what the Dutch? ex Chelsea winger we let excape too who had a good season or two before losing form, to a much lesser extent I admit)

Hoyte doesnt count, he sounds French :p

Neither are true 1st XI either (Im sure they may become automatic choices, but both are currently subs at best arent they?)

Both are first team squad members. Hoyte will not make it at Arsenal imo, his brother may do though.

Exactly what I said they are subs:)

edit......not sure how believable the quote is, but ManUtdForums have a post up stating Mascherano has openly admitting he wants to play with Tevez at Man Utd......

As a Rangers fan I'm GUTTED that Hutton turned down the move to Spurs. I don't rate him at all. He's playing OK at the moment, but his temper is poor and I don't think his good form will last. The £8m could have come in very handy.

Yup decent player but spurs would have recieved a very raw player IMO. Excellent at going forward but weak in defence which is not what spurs need right now. £8m is a hillarious fee to be honest in the current climate BUT he has the potential to be a good premiership player. I wouldnt mind Man Utd signing if he was given a chance to integrate himself into the team.

Just watched a Gareth Southgate press conference and i've had more than a few tonight but he comes across as the most clueless eejit ever to manage a football club.

'Ive never heard of half their names' is either a fantastic double bluff or the most blatant display of a complete lack of knowledge of the foreign transfer market. Looking at his past record i know which one i'd go for.

Orra best Middlesborough!

Mascherano wants to come to United

Mascherano: I want to join Tevez at Manchester United

On loan Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano admits he wants to join his former teammate at Manchester United with a permanent move to Liverpool unlikely to occur as the American owners are baulking over the £17m price tag set by MSI.

Mascherano - A target for United, Juventus and Real Madrid - wants to play alongside countryman Carlos Tevez once again after their adventures at Corinthians and West Ham.

The holding midfielder, rated at £17million, said: "I would like a new adventure in England because as each day passes it is looking more and more unlikely that I could remain at Liverpool.

“It’s simple,” Mascherano said. “With the time that has passed, it will now be more difficult for me to stay here because I need to do something about my future. It is a really difficult situation because I have been talking a lot about how I want to stay here, but it doesn’t depend on me. I have done everything to stay but the owners have to decide if they want to buy.”

Manchester United boss Ferguson has always been an admirer of Mascherano and considered signing him last summer, and it is being rumoured that he will willing to pay the asking price to land him now.

Mascherano added, "I would be happy to play for any of the other big clubs in England if Liverpool do not sign me permanently, but to play alongside Carlitos as well as people like Rooney, Scholes and Ronaldo would be my biggest dream of all."

Hehehehe :D

LOL, don't want him but isn't that just the perfect way of pleasing your current clubs fans :D

Wind up though?

Sounds like a complete fabrication as it is using genuine quotes about him wanting to stay at Liverpool, but has all the stuff about Man United mixed in and the quotes about not wanting to play for another club in england reversed. Plus, if it was genuine, the english press would be all over it.

Why would United want Mascherano? They have Owen ' Leo Sayer' Hargreaves and Bob 'Anderson' Marley in midfield with Phil Neville look-a-like Michael Carrick waiting in the wings while picking up awards for 'best 3rd division footballer haircut'. :)
