***The Official Asus Eee PC Thread***

Need more word on that expanded battery. 9" sounds fantastic but I do need more than 3hours (scaling it down as there will be less on the 9")

Just received mine today, had a mess around on it just now. First impressions, very good build quality and very decent sized screen. The internet is a million times better on that then on my orbit 2!

I just need win xp on there now!!!

Have to say it looks mint in black :)

I have just tried playing dvds from the xbox 360 hd-dvd drive on the asus eee, and they all work perfectly fine. :) So you can use the 360 hd-dvd drive to install win xp on the eee which I am just about to attempt...

got mine a few wdays ago after waiting since the beginning of the year, & it's brilliant, ok the keyboard is a bit tricky to type with, and it's a lot lighter than lugging my laptop to college

Any news on the larger screen, higher amount of RAM version? If I use Slimserver that uses around 150MB of RAM (Windows) not sure how much it uses on Linux. Can you install Slimserver on the stock Linux distro, or would I need ubuntu? Also is there a dedicated Ubuntu install CD, rather than the standard one? (built for the asus PC, so all other stuff not needed isn't installed, and settings configured to save write cycles)

Great idea. From what i've seen the best guide you have to use an external cd-rom, this guide gives best results and lowest install size. However you can still install via USB sticks etc using other guides.

im hoping to buy one from the MM (when i get access lol)

quick question, i had a whirl on a linux 2g in the purple place and found you had to use the bar to left click!

im used to tapping the touchpad, will the touchpad on the eee let me do this if i put xp on it?

Lee

eeewwww you live in Great Yarmouth. Lowestoft for the win!

Should it be ok charging the EEE pc in the US/NZ/OZ/Asia using just a plug converter?

I was in NZ for 3 weeks, using an adapter with my HP laptop, which was fine, so should imagine so. Theres already a US one in the plug if u unclip it, no?

Just installed win xp from the 360 hd-dvd drive and it installs fine.

Full Win XP Pro SP2
(all windows updates)
All asus drivers (from cd)
Firefox
MSN Live Messenger
Winrar
Divx Codecs
Media Player Classic
Avast

Did this to see how it runs and it all boots up pretty quick and everything seems to be working fine. The above takes up 1.75GB and leaves 1.95GB free space. :)
