***The Official Asus Eee PC Thread***

The guide i seen you can have a install size of 575mb or less. I've just installed XP via a USB stick all seems fine i just need to install the drivers:D.

I have seen that guide, but I've not used nlite before and that did seem like quite a long process. This was just a test install really and everything installed quick and hassle free, I just followed the instructions in the Asus Eee manual.

Win XP runs great on it though, a lot better then I had expected.

Likewise, i just put a basic install on. XP running with no issues so i'm going to try tweak it now;).

Just seen a few pre-order prices for the 900 of £305 for both the 8 GB + XP and the 12 GB + Xandros. I'll definitely pay that.

Just installed Google Earth, Office XP (well word, powerpoint and excel) and Activesync on there as well, and it uses a total of 2.01GB with about 1.7GB free.

Also connected the eee to my xda orbit 2 via activesync, and I can use my unlimited web bolt on (with my o2 contract) on the eee. Only problem is the usb wire, need to make it wireless which a bluetooth adapter should fix.

Not bad, i'm struggling to get an Nlite xp to install from a usb drive as i don't have an external cd-rom:(.

Found somewhere with the 4Gb versions of the 701 in stock but they say they are the US model?
What is the difference and is there likely to be any problems?

Keyboard? Won't be much difference apart from that although warranty may not be covered here in Europe.

i was pretty much set on purchasing the 701 yesterday, but the 900 one seems the works, does anyone know what processor it runs? and when its officially out?

i personally think it looks much better with the minimal screen surround, but £300 is a bit steep for a cheap low spec laptop

It will have the same processor as the 701, there are rumours of an Intel Atom, but nothing official. More likely to have the same as the 701 IMO.

Release date is march/april in Asia and april-june in Europe IIRC

not really when it comes with gig of ram and a 12gb/20gb ssd.

8GB/12GB ^^

But to get a 701 costs £220, one online shop is doing the white version for £209 delivered. Get a gig of Ram (£15 delivered?), then buy a 4GB SDHC for £9 delivered.
Yeh, the SDHC won't be as fast, but £235 vs £310, that's £75 for
+the larger screen
+larger touch pad
+faster storage (compared to when using SDHC to make up the difference)
-overall larger unit
-less battery life due to larger screen

It does seem a bit steep!

£75 is nothing compared to the increased productivity when using that slightly larger screen with an infinitely more usable resolution...

As Ive said before, I consider the 701 is a niche gadget - the 900 acts as a 'proper' laptop

ps3ud0

Just wait until the 900 comes out. There will be loads of 701's nice and cheap second hand. I reckon £120ish for a 4gb which for me at less than half price of the 900 series will make it a bargain.
