***The Official Asus Eee PC Thread***

^ id just get a 701, theyre £220, which is a great price.

Ive got some music, XP, Office, Firefox, MSN, Xfire and a few various other apps, which has left me with 2.2gb.

Personally, I am going to wait and see how much the 900 costs, guesstimates are around £300-£400, but by the time it's released there'll probably be some competition to drive the price down a bit.

I hope so, I have decided I ain't paying a dime over £330 for one. If its priced higher I'll try to source a 701 4G for £220-£230.

I've seen two websites taking preorders on the 901 so far. One was £399 and the other a laughable £464. They weren't very reputable sites anyway. I really want one to take travelling but anything over £350 is unacceptable.

^^ For around £500 you can start getting some decent 12" laptops which aren't much bigger and are much better specced. The only issue is that without SSD they are more prone to damage from knocks.

If the 901 is £300 I may consider one to mess about on but anymore than this and it goes against the point of the Eee. £464 is a joke and that company are having a laugh!

Are they stopping production of the 701 4g when the new 901 is released? I don't need the extras with the 901 but need more than the 2g :(. I'm looking at buying my Eee within the next couple of months.

Have I missed the boat with the 4g versions? No one seems to have any or is it just becuase they are so popular?
Also, want to put XP on if I get one. Does XP Home work? EeeUser makes a note that:
"Windows XP Home Edition (Version 2002). Trying to install results in a BSOD during the initialization process. The error seems to be with pci.sys"
IS this any version of Home or just the original (i.e NOT SP2) version?
I have also heard about 'Fundamentals' but how/where can you get it as the only info I found suggested it was only available to corporate licencees.

Also, has anyone used a USB 3g modem with the EeePC. This is one reason I am keen to buy the device.

I assume the XP install is straightfoward of the instructions on the EeeUSer site are followed? Can the original OS be 'restored' if required?

Thanks
Andrew

I found a black 4g eee no problem you have to know where to look. BTW serial 8***** there is no PCI-e expansion slot.

I installed XP home it runs great upgraded ram to 1gb runs even better. Easy to go back to Linux should you wish just boot from DVD that comes with eee.

No problems with XP home 2002 although i nlite'd it first.

xp install goes easy

3g modem works great

I'm torn between a 7xx eee and a 9xx eee. If the 9xx isnt much more expensive, and comes with the new intel atom cpu, it makes more sense. But i prefer the smallness of the 7xx - that little bit bigger unit size on the 9xx is kind of putting me off..as is the possibility of a new cpu.. I'm thinking i'll prob go for the 9xx if its reasonably priced as the better screen is something i could use.

Hi All

Just got my Eee 701 4G today and I have to just say... It is FANTASTIC! Just playing my Amiga games on it using WinUAE, connected my phone to it and now I can get on the net wherever I am... it is brilliant!

Thank you for the reply. Good to hear the 3g works fine.
Finally found some 4g models in stock but £260 - is that fair price now?
What is the PCI-e slot used for with the Eee PC?

Thanks
Andrew

the PCI-E slot is used for the SSD on the 8g model. If you look hard enough you will find EEE for ~£220-230.

4gb £220? :)

*EDIT*

Found one for £211, but they are ambiguously stating "Normally in Stock."

Time to harass.

*EDIT 2*

Out of stock, such bad retailers. Why aren't they all OCUK?
